Senior Structural Engineer – PE/SE Licensed
Location: Lakewood, CO | Full-Time | Hybrid Schedule (Up to 2 Days Remote)
A nationally respected civil and structural engineering consulting firm headquartered in the Denver metro area is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join their Lakewood office. With a long-standing reputation for technical excellence, creativity, and community impact, this firm supports innovative new construction, complex expansions, and investigative engineering solutions across commercial, institutional, sports, civic, and infrastructure sectors.
Position Overview:
This role offers the opportunity to lead small to mid-size structural projects or portions of larger, high-profile work. The ideal candidate has a PE or SE license, strong technical judgment, and a desire to mentor junior engineers while continuing to grow into project management and client-facing responsibilities.
You’ll be hands-on with design, responsible for structural modeling, specification writing, report development, and field investigation—while playing a key role in maintaining quality control, managing project budgets, and fostering collaboration across teams.
Core Responsibilities:
Lead structural engineering design on projects with minimal supervision
Evaluate, select, and implement appropriate design methods, tools, and procedures
Mentor and provide guidance to Engineer-in-Training (EIT) staff on codes, software, and technical approaches
Conduct design reviews, check calculations, and ensure adherence to QA/QC plans
Use BIM software for modeling, coordination, and detailing; supervise BIM technician work
Attend project meetings and assist in communicating with clients, agencies, and partners
Prepare detailed construction drawings, specifications, and reports
Conduct site observations and field investigations using specialized tools and protocols
Manage and monitor your own work as well as technical support staff
Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and reviewing agencies
Estimate probable construction costs and monitor design schedules and budgets
Assist in developing communication strategies to ensure information flows efficiently across all stakeholders
Travel Requirements:
Up to 20% travel for industry conferences, client meetings, or visits to other office locations
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree (or U.S. equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline
PE or SE license required
2+ years of professional experience performing structural design work for building-related projects
Experience with BIM for structural modeling, coordination, and detailing
Familiarity with SAP2000, RAM Structural System, Quick Masonry, S-Concrete, and WoodWorks
Working knowledge of building codes and material-specific design standards
Experience coordinating project details and adhering to QA/QC plans
Hands-on experience conducting construction site observations and reporting
Proven ability to manage structural design efforts within defined time and budget constraints
Demonstrated mentorship of junior engineering staff
