Clinical Laboratory Supervisor POSITION SUMMARY: The Lab Supervisor functions as the managing technologist, under the guidance of the Lab Director, and is responsible for being part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, development, and implementation of objectives for the Lab. The Lab Supervisor is responsible for coordinating all technical and logistical functions to ensure prompt and accurate testing and reporting of results for all laboratory samples within established timeframes. The Lab Supervisor functions within the scope of practice regulated by State and National government as well as various accrediting agencies. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works as a bench technologist approximately 50% of the time, specializing in chemistry, Hematology, and PCR testing. Supervise all clinical laboratory staff. Performs all personnel functions for all clinical laboratory staff including approving PTO, preparing bi-weekly time sheets, and completing all annual evaluations. Oversee daily operations of clinical laboratory, including LIS and interfaces with EMR, and equipment maintenance agreements. Maintains all laboratory records and procedure manuals in accordance with regulatory requirements. Monitors laboratory performance for compliance with accreditation, federal, and state regulatory requirements and reports deficiencies to administration. Writes/updates lab policies and SOPs as necessary. Analyzes new tests to be implemented and assists in equipment acquisition and validation studies before new processes are put into use in conjunction with the Laboratory Medical Director. Reviews lot-to-lot studies, linearities, and instrument correlations as needed. Reviews calibrations and Quality control monthly. Acquires appropriate proficiency testing material that meets NYSDOH guidelines. Reviews results and provides corrective action as needed. Responsible for pulling monthly statistics of volume of testing performed. Ensures competencies are performed by all staff upon hire, in six months, and annually. Ensures licensed medical technicians and technologists have documented 12 hours of continuing education annually. Responsible for all equipment maintenance schedules/service contracts and facilitating repairs. Performs specimen audit for each section of the laboratory and annual review of each audit performed to ensure corrections are maintained. Other duties as assigned.
