The Surgical Technologist assumes appropriate responsibilities in the perioperative area by scrubbing, assisting the RN circulator, setting up and breaking down surgical procedures, pulling and putting away supplies and equipment, and environmental service duties. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:Ensures proper supplies, equipment, and instruments are ready for use.Cleans operating room between cases.Restocks operating rooms as necessary to meet par levels.Assists other operating rooms for coverage.Knowledge of surgeon preferences, procedures, instrumentation, and equipment.Prepares cases for next day.May operate sterilizer, lights, suction machine, and other designated equipment.Ensures patient, procedure, operative site, positioning and equipment correspond.Follows the center exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and acts according to policyPerforms hand scrub according to policy and procedure.Arranges instruments and supplies for surgical procedure.Maintains integrity of instruments.Ensures proper counting of sponges, instruments, and sharps.Assists in gowning of other personnel and draping of patient.Anticipates surgeon's needs.Passes instruments to surgeon and/or assistant as appropriate.Communicates needs to circulators to ensure efficient and uninterrupted progress of procedure.Prepares and preserves specimens.Verifies name, strength, and dosage of medication with circulator; confirms, labels, and placeson surgical field.Cleans and disinfects all tables, counter surfaces, stands, and floor.May help transport patient and restock the operating room.Performs other duties as assignedEDUCATION/EXPERIENCEREQUIRED:High school diploma or equivalentGraduate of an accredited school of surgical technologyPREFERREDOne year of current Surgical Tech experience in an OR setting.
