Blake Smith Staffing, LLC
My client is a leading quantitative investment company focused on computer-driven trading in global financial markets.
We are a team of researchers, engineers, and financial industry professionals using sophisticated statistical models to analyze data and identify predictive signals to generate superior investment returns. The company's investment teams each focus on their independent strategies while utilizing the firms proprietary, state-of-the-art technology and data platform to optimize their alpha research.
The Systems Engineer will join Company's Systems Infrastructure team, which is responsible for all layers of technology in our environment, from networking, to servers, and application services, reporting directly to the Head of Infrastructure. The firms infrastructure is built using modern technologies, with a focus on creating robust, reusable components and strategic use of automation. As a flat team, all members have exposure to, and are responsible for, design, implementation, operation and support for our environment.
The Systems Engineer will initially focus on day-to-day system administration and supporting end-user systems, with an opportunity to grow into working on other parts of our systems infrastructure over time, ultimately managing large projects on their own. The ideal candidate will demonstrate both technical aptitude in areas they have worked in previously and the ability to think systematically and reason about problems they have not yet seen. While new team members will receive support and mentorship from other members of the team, they will also be expected to perform research independently and propose both solutions to problems that arise and efficiencies to current processes.
This is an in-office role, based in our New York City office, and includes physical responsibilities such as day-to-day in-person support and workstation adds/changes. The position may also include periodic regional travel from time-to-time.
This role offers a unique opportunity to make an impact on the daily operations of our firm with the potential to oversee lead more substantial infrastructure projects over time. If you are looking for further experience and thrive in a fast-paced, data-driven environment, we encourage you to apply.
The job provides exposure to:
A large, Linux-centric, multi-tenant public cloud environment
Configuration management tools such as Ansible, and infrastructure management tools such as Terraform
Heavy use of cloud-managed services (DBaaS, IaaS, etc.) to offload undifferentiated maintenance work from the team

User-facing systems in various shapes and sizes (Windows, Macs, Linux endpoints, physical and virtual)
A SaaS-heavy corporate environment that favors flexibility and agility over legacy on-premise technologies
Cloud-native video-conferencing and phone systems
Various storage technologies including object storage, file share systems, and cloud-based platforms such as Sharepoint
