JOB SUMMARY : Transcribes dictated medical reports, maintaining an accurate reference file of the transcribed reports.

QUALIFICATIONS :
JOB SPECIFIC CORE COMPETENCIES: Aptitude for detail and accuracy. Ability to work unsupervised. Hearing acuity. Productively transcribe medical dictation with minimal errors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Transcribes medical dictation of the following reports: histories and physicals, discharge summaries, operative reports, cardiology reports, various consultations including orthopedic, oncology, pulmonology, infectious disease, OB/GYN, neurology, progress notes and other various outpatient notes. Proofreads reports for spelling, grammar and format, correcting discrepancies and using references appropriately. Monitors Winscribe database for STAT transcription of specified reports upon request. Types reports from handwritten or canned reports as requested. Other duties as assigned.
EXPECTED BEHAVIORS : Productivity minimum is 9,375
keystrokes/hour/pay
period and/or 125 lines/hour. Productivity is measured by dividing the keystrokes and lines/hour (as measured by the Meditech departmental module transcription software) by the number of hours worked. 95-100 2 85-94 1
Transcribed reports meet or exceed standard error rate of 1 error/100 lines. Error rate is calculated by dividing the total errors by the number of lines transcribed. 97 – 100 2 90 – 96 1
Initiates transcription of STAT reports when requested. Communicates with other departmental personnel re: status and availability of the STAT request. Transcribes various reports within the specified timeframe. Safeguards the privacy of all medical information. Displays and maintains “customer service attitude" which promotes good guest relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. Demonstrates ability to embrace and adapt to change. Regularly initiates ideas to improve the efficiency and processes of the department in a positive and productive manner. Aptitude for detail and accuracy. Hearing acuity. Hand dexterity for key entry and use of references. Organized and neat. Preference for work involving little interaction with people. Maintains professional conduct in stressful situations. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : 80 wpm typing skill. Knowledge of spelling, grammar, and mechanics of sentence structure. Medical terminology. Anatomy and physiology. Experience with Meditech transcription software and/or word processing software. Mandatory Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Corporate Compliance (including Confidentiality), Infection Control, and education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies, scope of practice, and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.
WORK CONDITIONS
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS : Greater than 50% of work day sitting to perform computer-based tasks including listening to dictation and transcription of reports. Hearing requirements include but are not limited to hearing and responding to pagers, phones, and
patients/customers/physicians
requesting assistance. Manual dexterity, as used for performing intricate procedures such as typing. Repetitive movement of upper extremities up to 45 minutes continuously (reaching, typing, etc.). Sit to and from, stand at office chair Vision requirements include but are not limited to close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. EQUIPMENT USED : computer Winscribe transcription equipment ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS : Ability to sit for long durations. Ability to maintain composure under stressful situations.
