Position Overview
The
Vice President of Mergers and Acquisitions
is a strategic executive leadership role responsible for spearheading the organization’s inorganic growth initiatives. This individual will lead the end-to-end M&A lifecycle—from deal sourcing and due diligence through negotiation, execution, and post-merger integration—focused on expanding the company’s footprint across physician practices, hospitals, ancillary services, digital health platforms, and other healthcare-related entities. The ideal candidate brings deep healthcare industry expertise, a strong financial acumen, and a proven track record of successful healthcare transactions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive M&A strategy aligned with the company’s long-term growth objectives in the healthcare sector, including physician group consolidation, ambulatory surgery centers, diagnostic imaging, behavioral health, and urgent care. Deal Origination: Identify and cultivate acquisition opportunities through a robust network of healthcare providers, investment banks, consultants, and industry insiders. Financial & Strategic Analysis: Conduct rigorous financial modeling and strategic assessments, incorporating a payer mix, reimbursement trends, regulatory risk, and clinical quality indicators. Due Diligence Management: Lead cross-functional due diligence teams—including legal compliance, clinical operations, IT, and revenue cycle—to evaluate clinical integration, regulatory compliance (e.g., Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, HIPAA), and scalability. Transaction Execution: Structure, negotiate, and close transactions that align with both financial return thresholds and strategic growth imperatives. Integration Oversight: Drive post-merger integration efforts to ensure operational, cultural, and clinical alignment across acquired entities. Clinical Collaboration: Partner with medical leadership to assess the clinical and value-based care implications of potential acquisitions. Regulatory Monitoring: Stay abreast of evolving healthcare regulations and reimbursement models (e.g., CMS, Medicare/Medicaid, value-based care) to inform acquisition strategy. Executive Communication: Prepare and present detailed business cases and strategic recommendations for executive leadership and board stakeholders.

Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field; advanced degree (MBA, JD, MHA) strongly preferred. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in healthcare M&A, investment banking, private equity, or corporate development. Proven track record of leading complex, buy-side healthcare transactions from origination through integration. Deep understanding of healthcare financial metrics, reimbursement models, and regulatory frameworks. Experience with physician alignment strategies, healthcare compliance, and patient care delivery models. Strong operational knowledge of healthcare systems, including clinical workflows, EMR platforms, revenue cycle management, and quality metrics. Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and negotiation skills. Ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Preferred Attributes
Established relationships with healthcare providers, private equity firms, and M&A advisors. Experience integrating acquisitions into multi-site, multi-specialty healthcare organizations or platforms. Familiarity with population health, accountable care organizations (ACOs), and value-based care models. Knowledge of common healthcare transaction structures (e.g., MSOs, joint ventures, asset/stock deals). Commitment to ongoing professional development and industry engagement.
