Job Purpose
Straughan is hiring a full-time Regulated and Control Waste Management Specialist for Environmental Compliance at a client research campus in Hampton, Virginia. The Regulated and Control Waste Management Specialist is responsible for the cradle-to-grave management of hazardous and regulated waste streams. This position ensures full compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including RCRA, DOT, OSHA, and EPA requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities
Oversee hazardous waste operations, including lab packing and waste profiling
Operate and maintain the Waste Disposal Tracking System (WDTS)
Conduct inspections of accumulation areas to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance
Prepare hazardous waste manifests, biennial reports, and discrepancy reports
Coordinate packaging, pickup, and off-site disposal of hazardous and regulated waste
Deliver training on waste management protocols and spill response procedures
Support environmental audits and maintain required documentation for compliance verification
Requirements
Education:
Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Environmental/Chemical/Civil/Mechanical Engineering Experience : Minimum of 8 years of experience managing RCRA hazardous waste, including comprehensive cradle-to-grave oversight Proven experience overseeing hazardous waste programs and personnel, with a strong compliance track record Expertise in lab packing a wide variety of unique laboratory chemicals Thorough understanding of technical aspects of controlled waste management and the requirements of the Performance Work Statement (PWS) Desired Qualifications RCRA Hazardous Wate Management Certification DOT HAZMAT Employee Training Certification OSHA 24-hour HAZWOPER Certification Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.
