Position Title: Technical Writer
Internal Title (SMX): Technical Writer II
Location: Remote (with occasional travel to Washington, D.C.)
Clearance Required: Must be eligible for HSPD-12 (PIV) clearance
Employment Type: Full-Time (W-2)
Rate: $55.10/hour to $58.00/hour (W2)
Company Overview SMX Services and Consulting, Inc. is hiring a Technical Writer to create and manage technical documentation for federal software systems including user manuals, SOPs, security packages, and deployment procedures.
Key Responsibilities • Draft and maintain SOPs, security artifacts, and release notes • Format and edit documents to meet federal compliance standards • Translate technical concepts into accessible language • Support documentation for ATO and audit readiness • Collaborate with development, QA, and security teams
Minimum Qualifications • 3–5 years of experience in IT technical writing • Proficient with Word, Adobe, SharePoint, and PDF tools • Able to write clear and accurate documentation for diverse audiences
Preferred Qualifications • STC or tech writing certification • Familiarity with NIST 800-53 or FISMA frameworks • Experience with Agile and DevOps environments
Education • Associate or Bachelor's in English, Communications, or IT —OR— • 5+ years of technical writing experience
Security Requirements • U.S. Citizenship • Tier 1+ background investigation • Eligibility for HSPD-12 credentialing
