Job Overview

The Director, Systems Architecture (Database Platforms) sits at the heart of this culture, partnering with senior leaders to develop and execute the company's database platform strategy. This executive leads the strategy, operations, and security of T-Mobile's database platforms, ensuring they are highly available, secure, and compliant to support the business's evolving needs. The role is responsible for building and scaling next-generation platforms, enabling business agility and supporting enterprise-wide technology transformation, including cloud and AI adoption. This leader also drives operational excellence, cost optimization, and innovation, establishing T-Mobile as a technology powerhouse in a competitive landscape.
Job Responsibilities : Un-carrier Responsibilities
Form strategic partnerships with senior internal customers to understand business strategies and ensure alignment of database platform initiatives. Define and execute the strategy, vision, and roadmap to transform database platforms toward a "Zero Downtime" future and support T-Mobile's journey from Telco to Techco. Strategically leverage cloud database platforms for greater agility, security, and faster time to market. Evaluate emerging technology trends and adopt new platforms to support AI and digital transformation initiatives. Drive continual service improvement, operational excellence, and efficient collaboration between technology teams. Build, lead, and inspire a high-performing team of Systems Architects, Platform Engineers, and Database Administrators to deliver on business objectives. Oversee departmental budgeting, optimize the cost of service delivery, and ensure performance metrics and service levels are consistently met or exceeded. Lead through change, motivate teams, and foster a culture of innovation and growth. Ensure platforms are secure, compliant, and able to support the scale and complexity of T-Mobile's operations. Perform other duties and projects as assigned. The Experience You'll Bring
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience required. Master's/Advanced Degree preferred. More than 10 years of professional experience developing highly scalable and highly available network or database solutions. 5+ years of leadership experience, including at least 2 years managing people leaders. Proven success building and managing high-performing technical teams. Strong ability to communicate and influence at the executive level. Expertise in strategy, architecture, and operations for enterprise database platforms (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, Postgres) including cloud and hybrid environments. Financial and budget management experience, including use of metrics and scorecards. Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement. Familiarity with industry standards (4G LTE, WiFi, 5G NR, 3GPP) and modern database/cloud technologies. Strong organizational agility and a strategic mindset. Negotiation, conflict resolution, and the ability to advocate for team and technology at an industry level. At least 18 years of age Legally authorized to work in the United States Base Pay Range: $200,700 - $271,500Corporate Bonus Target: 25% The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate's actual pay will be based on various factors, such as qualifications and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee's eligible earnings in the prior year.
