We are seeking a Database Architect to join our team and support the modernization initiatives of our federal client. Qualified applicants will be subject to a security investigation and must meet minimum qualifications for access to classified information. This is a highly technical position; individuals will be screened by peers in a technical review of skills and experience. This position is contingent upon contract award. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Enterprise Data Architecture:
Provide expertise in the most current principles and practices of data management and architecture. Provide expertise in modeling and organizing information to facilitate support of projects and information architecture. Define and evolve a domain-driven, event-based data architecture aligned with organization's mission and data strategy. Lead the design and development of data ingestion, data lakes, data warehouses, and data marts, ensuring scalability and adaptability. Develop and maintain canonical data models, logical and physical data schemas, and metadata strategies. Integration & Interoperability:
Architect real-time and batch data pipelines to support bi-directional data exchange with external stakeholders (e.g., USPS, FDA, USDA). Leverage tools like Qlik Replicate, Oracle GoldenGate, Kafka, and Spark to enable secure and reliable data movement. Support integration with legacy systems and modern platforms (e.g., Databricks, Iceberg, Delta Lake). Governance & Security:
Ensure compliance with NIST 800-series, Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) principles, and data governance policies. Embed data quality, lineage, and drift detection into data pipelines to maintain integrity across the data lifecycle. Support implementation of role-based access control, encryption-at-rest/in-transit, and secure API-based data sharing. Collaboration & Delivery:
Partner with product owners, developers, business stakeholders, and the O&M team to translate business needs into scalable data solutions. Provide architecture oversight for AI-ML use cases, BI migration initiatives, and investigative data support for the Custodian of Records. Lead technical reviews, guide implementation teams, and drive adoption of data mesh, MLOps, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC). Required Work Experience: The Data architect must have at least 10 years of experience involving information technology and related systems. Minimum of ten years' experience in planning, designing, building and implementing IT-related data architecture strategies. Must have experience in large system data designs, and data modeling techniques in the information management arena. Must have experience interfacing regularly with executives, business owners, SMEs, other system maintenance contractors, and other technical staff to effectively communicate data strategies at various levels of understanding. Demonstrated ability to develop, plan and execute data architecture strategies and ability to convey relationships within complex enterprise architecture. Experience in performing feasibility studies and integration analyses. Expertise in supporting data architecture for enterprise applications based on COTS or non-COTS applications. Desired Work Experience: At least five years of the required ten years of experience must be in the direct supervision and management of major projects that involve providing professional support services and/or the integration, implementation and transition of large complex system and subsystem architectures. Excellent interpersonal communication and consensus-building skills with demonstrated ability to present material effectively to all levels of personnel. Experience designing cloud-native data architectures using AWS, GCP, Databricks, Iceberg or equivalent. Strong hands-on knowledge of SQL, Python, Spark, Kafka, and ETL/ELT frameworks. Familiarity with Zero Trust Security, NIST 800-53, and data compliance frameworks. Experience with BI/reporting platforms such as Tableau, Qlik, Apache Superset. Strong understanding of data modeling, metadata management, data catalogs, and data governance. Job Skills: Enthusiastic, proactive, positive attitude with great listening skills and high integrity. Ability to teach, grow and coach a team. Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail and ability to effectively manage architectures supporting multiple users. Strong desire to mentor, coach team members while providing oversight for all aspects of relevant Programs. Ability to think and act strategically and proactively approach projects and issues. Strong writing and presentation skills. Able to work under pressure and to be flexible with changing priorities. Able to find innovative ways to solve problems. A genuine interest in looking for opportunities to add value and grow your area of responsibility. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or other related discipline desired. Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:
Industry leading data related certifications highly desired. Communication Skills: Solid ability to interface, inspire and motivate at various levels of the organization. Ability to convey technical information to non-technical individuals. Demonstrated experience communicating effectively across internal and external organizations.
