We seek a mission-driven strategic Director of Finance to help lead their next chapter of impact. This role requires strong leadership, deep experience in government grant accounting (city, county, and state), and expertise in fund accounting within complex, multi-entity environments. The ideal candidate will bring a track record of driving process improvements, maintaining compliance with GAAP, CAS, and FASB standards, and leading teams through audits and financial reporting. Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day general ledger operations, including AP/AR, payroll, fixed assets, financial reporting, cost centers, and chart of accounts. Ensure full-cycle fund accounting compliance with GAAP and oversee financial statement preparation. Lead cash flow management, bank reconciliations, and accrual-to-cash review. Oversee revenue recognition, deferred revenue, and expense allocation across multiple entities. Supervise fund accounting, ensuring accurate tracking of restrictions, variances, and reconciliations. Conduct fixed asset and liability monitoring and reconciliation. Drive process improvement, develop internal controls, and implement accounting policies and procedures. Lead external audits (PBC), manage audit documentation, and ensure compliance with grant and donor requirements. Partner with Program Directors and leadership on short- and long-term strategic financial planning. Maintain strong relationships with external auditors and oversee audit schedules and deliverables. Provide team leadership, staff training, and foster a high-performing, compliant accounting environment. Support ERP implementation and financial reporting automation to increase operational efficiency. Thrive in a collaborative, mission-focused culture rooted in compassion, service, and social justice. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field Minimum 5 years in a Finance Director (or equivalent) role within a nonprofit organization 10+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in full-cycle GAAP nonprofit accounting Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor, train, and motivate accounting teams under tight deadlines Strong knowledge of government contract accounting, including city, county, and state contracts Expertise in managing complex fund accounting operations for large organizations, with deep understanding of GAAP, CAS, and FASB standards Proficient in MIP Abila or similar nonprofit ERP systems; advanced Excel skills required Excellent ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment Seniority level
