Job Description The
Director , Quality Assurance (QA)
will develop, implement, manage, and periodically evaluate and verify food safety and quality program to ensure the organization’s production operations, from raw materials to finished products, meet the quality, integrity, and food safety standards set by the organization . The
Director , QA
will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that products or services meet established quality standards, comply with regulatory requirements, and meet customer expectations. TASKS, DUTIES, & GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES Design, d evelop, implement, and maintain a Food Safety & Quality Management System ( FSMS & QMS) to ensure both internal and external contract manufacturing facilities comply with industry standards, regulations, and best practices . These standards and requirements include but are not limited to SQF Food Safety and Quality Standard, FDA, CFIA, local health and agricultural departments’ standards, retail and strategic customer audit standards
Establish and communicate quality standards, specifications, and performance metrics
Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess product or service quality
Oversee and coordinate quality control and assurance activities throughout Beyond Meat
Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify areas for continuous improvement and ensure compliance
Evaluate production operations from a strategic level to ensure that products meet quality, integrity, functionality, and other specifications and requirements
Collaborat e with management and senior staff across production facilities, departments and roles to draft and implement acceptable quality standards
Develop and implement quality standard testing and evaluation processes , including visual aid, and sensory specification.
Establish, implement and maintain a rigorous sensory evaluation program with product specification aligned with R&D and Customer standards.
Facilitate communication among production divisions and management
Assess test results and approves recommended changes
Review and update quality control documentation such as checklists, logs, and reports for effectiveness, accuracy, and relevance
Conduct random inspections and quality control checks
Periodically reports status of quality control and operations to executive leadership and, when required , regulatory agencies
Adhere to all safety, security, & Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) facility policies
Perform other related duties as assigned
Supervisory Duties Direct and oversee the quality department and supervisory staff (internal at our plants and external Co-man QA)
Conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive
Ensure team goals and objectives are entered into the system
QUALIFICATIONS Education, Technical Skills, and/or Previous Experience: Bachelor’s degree in food science or related industrial, scientific, or business field required ; Master’s degree preferred
Eight ( 8 ) to ten ( 10 ) years of related experience required with at least five (5) years as a quality director or in a similar role , highly preferred
Thorough knowledge of GMP, FDA/USDA /CFIA and Food Safety, SOP’s, and SQF
Certification in quality management (e.g., Certified Quality Manager, Certified Six Sigma Black Belt) is a plus
Thorough understanding of quality control standards and methodologies (e.g., ISO 9001, Six Sigma, Lean)
Experience in delivering quality training to team members on site and via Teams
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
S trong leadership and team management experience
Thorough understanding of manufacturing and production in the industry
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, and/or related software , PowerPoint , and Excel
WORK ENVIRONMENT On-site full-time at our Manufacturing Plant in Devault, PA
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Warehouse and production manufacturing environment that includes both tempered and ambient areas
Position located in a mix of production and office environments and requires a tolerance for consistent cold work environments (-10-40˚ F), high worker traffic, loud noises, odors, dust, and varying room temperatures
This position will be required to visit the production floor, refrigerated and frozen storage, and warehouses
Work flexible shifts as required
Understand that extended hours, occasional weekends , and/or worked holidays will be required based on C ompany needs
Travel may be required
**Annual salary commensurate with experience**
The starting annual base pay for this role begins at USD $165,000. The actual base is dependent upon many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. The role may also be eligible for bonus and benefits. Beyond Meat is an equal employment opportunity employer.
