We're looking for a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Network Installation Project Leader to support the dynamic technology infrastructure needs of the Penn community. Reporting to the Associate Director of Infrastructure Engineering, this role leads the design and delivery of low voltage cabling projects that enable cutting-edge teaching, research, and operations across several of our Schools and Centers.
You'll manage a portfolio of projects supporting new construction, renovations, and network upgrades in diverse settings-from classrooms and administrative offices to complex life sciences labs and clinical spaces. Your responsibilities will span project design, competitive bidding, contract awards, and on-site oversight to ensure high-quality installations that support mission-critical services on a large converged enterprise network.
With projects ranging from modest renovations to large, multi-million-dollar capital efforts, the ideal candidate brings strong project management skills, deep understanding of network cabling infrastructure, and the ability to coordinate across stakeholders in academic, administrative, and research environments. You'll also supervise external contractors and ensure compliance with university standards and industry best practices.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities
Lead the low voltage cabling installations for assigned buildings, schools, or centers ensuring that cabling installations conform to the appropriate BICSI standards and maintain our chosen cable system warranty.
Consult with Schools/Centers IT organizations, The Division of Facilities and Real Estate Services ( FRES) Facility staff, Property Managers ,and other ISC staff to ensure that telephony, voice, and data needs are met in construction and renovation projects.
Qualify, supervise, and manage Union low voltage cabling contractors including resource coordination with other ISC staff who are in a similar or complementary role.
Act as service owner/manager for 1 or more ISC service offerings.
Ensure quality and standards are met in the design and installation of network cabling. Ensure that installations and data rooms conform with ISC standards.
Design, bid, and award low voltage cabling contracts following University Purchasing and internal ISC guidelines.
Attend and actively participate in/contribute to construction and renovation project team meetings and work with school/center IT Staff, building administrators, and area managers to ensure that ISC spaces are well maintained and secure.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience or completion of a technical/trade program focused on network cabling, electrical systems, or a related field, along with relevant certifications and practical experience is required.
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience leading infrastructure projects, including team coordination and hands-on installation of low voltage cabling.
Demonstrated expertise in the design, implementation, and management of structured cabling systems supporting converged enterprise networks.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear project documentation, technical specifications, and stakeholder updates.
Proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders-including facilities, IT teams, contractors, and end users-to align technical solutions with organizational goals.
Preferred
BICSI certifications such as RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) and/or RTPM (Registered Telecommunications Project Manager).
Experience managing cabling or IT infrastructure projects in higher education, healthcare, or life sciences environments, especially within complex research or laboratory settings.
