Non-Exempt Position Overview This position moves and transfers all disposables delivered to the center, ensuring that all applicable regulations and policies are followed.

Duties and Responsibilities

Identifies, pushes, and packs trash, construction, and debris. Identifies and removes all items not allowed. Ensures that trailers are properly positioned. Identifies, loads, and ensures that all recyclables are properly transferred. Cleans chutes and other facilities. Interfaces with and advises the public regarding materials allowed. Addresses public inquiries and concerns. Assists with the operation of the scale house. Loads mulch for customers. Operates heavy equipment. Performs other related job duties as assigned. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent; three (3) years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses or Certifications : Possession of a valid, State of North Carolina driver's license to operate a motor vehicle. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment. Must possess Public Safety Certification. Must possess Transfer Station Operator Certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of County and departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs. Knowledge safe working practices. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.?? Skill in prioritizing and organizing work. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in using small office equipment, such as computers, telephones, copiers, and facsimile machines. Ability to operate heavy equipment, to include backhoes, tractors, and dump trucks. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.? Ability to work independently.? Ability to make timely and sound decisions.? Ability to adhere to all established safety standards and ensure such standards are not violated.? Ability to effectively communicate and interact with management, employees, members of the general public and other groups involved in the activities of the County as they relate to the department.
