Function:

The Part-Time Program Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the mission of the Senior Center to

Educate, Enrich, and Empower

older adults in our community. This dynamic position involves organizing and supervising programs, coordinating volunteers, maintaining a welcoming and engaging environment, and promoting center activities within the community under the supervision of the Senior Center Director and/or Assistant Director.

Typical Duties, Responsibilities, Tasks & Assignments: Greet new members and provide Senior Center tours. Answer phones, assist with activity sign-ups, and help schedule transportation rides. Supervise daily programs and activities, including setup, implementation, and breakdown. Assist in planning and preparing new and engaging activities for members. Assist Berlin High School student volunteers with birthday mailings and intergenerational activities. Occasionally assist with lunch service, including setup and serving. Decorate the Senior Center for various seasons and holidays. Create colorful and engaging bulletin boards that reflect current programs and events. Take photographs of events and programs to highlight member involvement and community engagement. Create and distribute promotional materials for programs, events and special initiatives. Assist with distributing newsletters to designated town sites. Help promote Senior Center programs to the broader community through media, printed materials and the Town website. Assist with keeping the center's Fixed Asset List up to date by tracking and recording new or moved equipment and furniture. Assist with inputting program and member information into the MySeniorCenter software system.

Qualifications:

Minimum of two (2) years of experience, preferably with programming and supervision of staff preferred. Experience working in the field of gerontology preferred. Knowledge of needs & behavior patterns of senior population. Must be available to work daytime hours, with occasional night & weekend availability as needed. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with program participants, staff, coworkers and the media. Ability to be creative with new programs and work independently, as needed. Must be comfortable using a computer i.e. Word, Excel and able to learn the department's software program. Experience working with the public.

Job Environment:

Minimal physical effort is generally required in performing duties under typical office conditions. The work requires some physical exertion such as standing, recurring stooping, walking, recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing less than 25 pounds. The work may require specific, but common physical characteristics and abilities such as mobility and dexterity.
