Security Engineer
Location: Candidates must be local to Illnois but the role will be primarily performed remotely. However candidates will need to be onsite a couple times a month for team meetings. Office Location: Skokie, IL
Compensation & Schedule • $120,000-$125,000/year • Full-time, W2 • Standard business hours • Start date: ASAP
Role Impact Step into a senior-level cybersecurity leadership role, where your expertise directly protects critical systems and data for a mission-driven organization. This is a strategic position for a seasoned engineer ready to lead incident response, mentor junior talent, manage tools and policy, and drive cybersecurity maturity across a complex, regulated environment. You'll operate mostly remote-with just monthly onsite collaboration-and help shape an expanding security team.
Key Responsibilities • Lead security incident response, vulnerability remediation, and threat analysis • Oversee system reviews, policy design, and risk assessments across internal and cloud environments • Document and optimize InfoSec procedures; guide governance, audits, and HIPAA compliance • Manage and deploy security tools: IPS/IDS, EDR, antivirus, proxies, DLP, vulnerability scanners • Serve as technical lead across cybersecurity projects and infrastructure security initiatives • Collaborate with stakeholders to integrate security best practices into daily operations • Mentor junior engineers and drive education around security operations and architecture
Minimum Qualifications • 8+ years combined IT and Cybersecurity experience with proven engineering background • Deep hands-on expertise across major security tools and technologies • Proven ability to lead and support enterprise applications and systems securely • Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred • One or more industry-standard certifications (e.g. CISSP, CISM, CEH) • Familiarity with healthcare IT environments and HIPAA security/privacy regulations • Strong command of risk management frameworks including ITIL and NIST • Exceptional communication, project leadership, and documentation skills
