Austin was recently voted the No. 1 place to live in America for the third year in a row - based on affordability, job prospects, and quality of life. It was named the fastest-growing large city in the U.S. It ranked No. 4 of the best large cities to start a business. It was chosen among the top 15 cities in the United States to visit. And its home state of Texas took the top spot in a study of the best states for female entrepreneurs. It's no secret that Austin, Texas is a hotbed for technology, startups, and innovation. There are so many tech companies that Austin has been nicknamed "Silicon Hills." Apple recently announced that it is creating a $1 billion campus with the capacity for 15,000 employees, making it the largest private employer in Austin. A hiring surge from Facebook is turning Austin into the third-largest U.S. hub outside of the company's Silicon Valley headquarters. And in the past couple of years, Google and Oracle have opened offices downtown. Why Austin? For one thing: "Everything is bigger in Texas," Texas Governor Greg Abbott said at a press conference in December. Austin has also long been the tech center of Texas, with 6,500 startups and tech companies based here, including Dell Fort Hood - One of Seven Poly-trauma Centers in the U.S. Fort Hood is a U.S. military post located in Killeen, Texas. The post is named after Confederate General John Bell Hood. It is located halfway between Austin and Waco, about 60 miles (100 km) from each, within the U.S. state of Texas. Its origin was the need for wide-open space to test and train with World War II tank destroyers. The War Department announced the location in January 1942, and the initial completion was set for that August. As originally constructed, Fort Hood had an area of 158,706 acres (64,226 ha), with billeting for 6,007 officers and 82,610 enlisted personnel. The main cantonment of Fort Hood had a total population of 53,416 as of the 2010 U.S. Census. Fort Hood is the most populous U.S. military installation in the world. 1 It is in Bell County, with some portions of the post in Coryell County. In April 2014, the website lists 45,414 assigned soldiers and 8,900 civilian employees with Fort Hood covering 214,000 acres. Darnall Army Medical Center The Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, it's variety of clinics and three community based medical homes support more than 42,000 active-duty personnel and more than 145,000 family members and retirees within a 40-mile radius. On an average day, the staff at Darnall deliver eight new babies, handle 4,258 out patient visits, 19 surgeries, 28 admissions, 226 Emergency Room visits and fill 4,160 prescriptions. Position Overview: Make recommendations on major diagnostics and treatment plans. Provide continuing follow-up care for chronic inpatients and outpatients with acute disorders and complications of these disorders, such as psychosis, organic brain syndrome, and substance abuse/addictions. Provide psychiatric care for walk-in patients presenting with acute illnesses of minor and major proportions. Examine and conduct thorough studies of presenting patients. Collaborate with physicians in other medical specialties on cases involving complicated and multifaceted problems. Facilitate patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referrals to other health care providers in accordance with Military Treatment Facility (MTF) policies and regulations. Prepare all records and reports as may be required in support of services rendered and as required by the MTF. Participate in clinic Quality Assurance Program as required to meet the standards of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Responsible for maintenance of the highest standards of professional care in the treatment of patients and in the teaching and training of residents and technicians. Prepare and document appropriate history, physical examinations and diagnosis. Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with hospital directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required by the contract. Ensure all documentation and reports are legible. Coordination with other departments of the medical facility staff to provide complete care to patients. Provide and document medical advice to patients by telephone as appropriate and in accordance with MTF protocols. Provide clinical direction to supporting government personnel assigned to their area during the performance of clinical procedures. Consult with supervisor and/or colleagues, which are normally available, regarding problems either professional or administrative. Responsible for the quality and the timeliness of treatment records and reports required to document procedures performed and care provided. Participates in clinical education programs and in clinical staff quality improvement functions as prescribed by Chief, Behavioral Health. Utilize interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that he/she can relate constructively to a variety of patients from diverse backgrounds.
