Bergen Community College
Provides network support to operational computer network users. Install and manage campus network resources including switches, routers, firewalls, access points and phones. Monitor and troubleshoot network stability and performance. Ensures network system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational policies.
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provides level 1 and 2 network and communications technical support and troubleshooting. Designs and proposes network topologies, plan structures and network security policies to IT Management. Lead and manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring accountability for timelines, deliverables, and outcomes. Installs network hardware and software components, including upgrades, as required; configures network services, and works closely with the systems team to ensure connectivity between IT systems and the rest of the network. Creates and maintains network topology (wired, wireless, and plant) and configuration documentation. Configures and deploys telephony devices and systems. Configures and deploys remote access services. Coordinates network cable installations with cabling vendor and reviews contractor work to ensure adherence to specifications. Configures, monitors, and maintains advanced monitoring and alerting for network resources including snmp, syslog and other related monitoring and management tools. Participates in monthly after-hours maintenance windows. Responds to critical support issues outside of work hours as needed. Works closely with end users and/or other ITS members to ensure technical issues are resolved in a timely manner. Manage, design, configure, install, maintain and repair network systems such as firewalls, routers, switches, security and VOIP systems. Sets up and maintains basic network operations, including assembly of network hardware. Mentor's junior staff facilitating technical skills and knowledge growth. Provides technical input and guidance on technology projects and initiatives. Performs additional tasks or duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Infrastructure Services or other designated management. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education:
High school degree required.Associate's Degree preferred.
Experience
:
Minimum of 2 years of related experience or 2 years at a technical school, or a combination of both to equal 2 years. Experience with Fortinet and Cisco Systems preferred.
Other:
Must regularly be able to lift and carry small packages or equipment of up to 10 pounds. May occasionally be required to lift and carry boxes or equipment weighing up to 60 pounds.

Should be well versed with technologies including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless infrastructure and virtualization technology Demonstrates a thorough understanding of networking concepts across all layers of the OSI model; (c) is familiar with and comfortable working with advanced IT systems and services such as SDN, VDI, FCoE, and ISCSI Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and have excellent communications skills; both written and verbal; Well versed in IP telephony operations and protocols. Must have demonstrated ability to employ a balanced and positive approach to all work activities and work collaboratively across various constituencies of the College and with vendors and external constituencies Exhibits strong skills in communication, customer and student focus, building relationships, organizing, and planning. SALARY AND BENEFITS
Annual Salary is $93,000-$97,000 NJ Educators Health Plan with free Vision and Dental. NJ State Pension plan. 15 vacation days, 15 sick days, 4 personal days, 2 floating holidays, all designated holidays and 5 non-designated holidays a year. 3 Partial Sick Days.
