The Student Success Center at Black Hills State University seeks to hire a positive, motivated self-starter to serve in the Student Transition Coordinator role. The Student Transition Coordinator will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and completing tasks related to the transition of new students into the University setting, including new and transfer student orientation and parent programming. This position will also be responsible for developing and implementing communication/marketing for the Student Success Center. This is a 12-month, benefit-eligible position reporting to the Director of the Student Success Center.
RESPONSIBILITIES: • Develop, coordinate, implement, and assess high-profile, comprehensive, and sustainable new student orientation programs, events, workshops, and activities for all new and transfer students and their families, with a focus on student success • Create educational parent resources and communications • Present to diverse groups on transition items such as FERPA and use of online learning platforms • Liaise with other departments to assist with activities related to the first year experience, such as course registration, Green & Gold Days, and FAFSA workshops • Create communication and marketing materials, including design of print and social media materials • Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor's degree in any related field • Effective written and verbal communication skills • Strong interpersonal skills • Experience working with diverse populations in a person-centered environment • Computer skills including use of Microsoft office products and social media, and the ability to learn other job-specific software programs
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Education in higher ed administration or experience working in a higher education setting • Understanding of barriers to successful transition into the University setting and through the first year and knowledge of activities designed to ease the transition to University learning • Strong communication and organizational skills, as well as event management experience • Experience with print and social media design and communication
