OR Assistant
Full time Shift: 12 Hour Day Shift (United States of America) Hours per week: 36 The OR Assistant will function as a member of the Care Delivery Team in the Pre-op, Operating Room, PACU, EP Lab, Hybrid OR, but may also support Cardiac Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology under the direction of, and be assistive to, a Registered Nurse and his/her designees. They will provide delegated patient care intervention, complete daily assignments by checklist, and aide the Surgical team in case turnover and the opening of specific sterile supplies. Upon transportation of non-telemetry patients, the OR Assistant will observe for patient concerns and report to the RN. All post procedure transport of patients will be accompanied by a registered nurse related to sedation administration policy. Experience Qualifications: Certified nursing aid or related experience. Preferred Skills and Abilities: Possesses the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. (Required proficiency) What You Will Do: Responsible for the correct set up for Oxygen delivery and safety, and vital sign monitors necessary for patient care during transport. Transportation of patients by the appropriate method of transport cart, or bed from the appropriate department. Verifies with read back and confirm the inpatient unit/floor that the patient resides on. Maintains cleanliness and neatness of service areas in the department and assigned O.R. rooms. Prepares requisitions for housekeeping, maintenance and general supply needs and insures adequate par levels are maintained. Refill the scrub sinks with supplies when needed. Assists with turnover between operative procedures and follow the proper procedure for sterile technique upon opening sterile packs and items designated by the RN and Technologist. Assists the RN during patient positioning and the surgical prep. Independently interprets the Schedule board for assigned rooms concerning case starts, case turnover, patient transportation, and needs determined by the procedure. Communicates pertinent patient information to appropriate staff in a timely manner. Will be responsible for the operation, charging, and timely response of the Vocera. Performs the duties designated on the specific OR block, Evening, or Weekend checklists. Reports needed repairs or replacement of broken or unsafe equipment. Runs errands to within and between departments as necessary. May provide traction services once trained on an as needed basis. Participates in intra-inter departmental committees, attends a majority of monthly staff meetings, attends mandatory activities related to competency and education during specified times. Assists with the orientation of personnel to the area. Check temperature of the blanket and fluid warmer, record results and fill daily. Point Of Care Testing as needed in Pre-op and PACU. Retrieve daily inventory delivery from receiving, perform 1:1 reconciliation of inventory, remove from outside packaging and take inventory to department and appropriately place in stock with appropriate rotation.
