Postdoctoral Position At Argonne National Laboratory
The Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory invites you to apply for a postdoctoral position beginning fall 2024 at Argonne's Trace Radioisotope Analysis Center (TRACER). TRACER specializes in detection and analysis of rare noble gas isotopes through Atom Trap Trace Analysis (ATTA), an efficient and selective atom counting method based on laser cooling and trapping. This position will focus on further advancing the ATTA technique. The Physics Division has an active and broad-ranging program at the intersection of nuclear and atomic physics including a strong focus on fundamental nuclear physics research with rare isotopes using various techniques such as nuclear decay and reaction studies, precision measurements in atom and ion traps, and high-resolution laser spectroscopy. Position requirements: Ph.D. in experimental nuclear, atomic physics, nuclear or analytical chemistry, or closely related fields. Experience in some of the following topics: isotope analysis, mass spectrometry, laser spectroscopy, laser cooling and trapping of neutral atoms, non-linear optics, and ultra-high vacuum instrumentation. U.S. citizenship is required for this position. Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork. The position is initially for one (1) year, with the possibility of extension for up to three (3) years, depending on funding and performance. Interested applicants should be prepared to arrange for three letters of reference to be provided during the application process. Any further questions regarding this position should be addressed to Dr. Peter Mueller (pmueller@anl.gov). Review of applicants is ongoing and will continue until the position is filled. As an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer, Argonne National Laboratory is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace that fosters collaborative scientific discovery and innovation. In support of this commitment, Argonne encourages minorities, women, veterans and individuals with disabilities to apply for employment. Argonne considers all qualified applicants for employment without regard to age, ancestry, color, disability, gender, gender identity, genetic information, marital status, national origin, pregnancy, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status or any other characteristic protected by law.
