Job Summary The Student Surgical Tech works under the supervision of a Certified Surgical Technician or Surgical Assistant, assisting in the preparation and care of surgical patients. Job Specific Responsibilities Prepares, maintains, and organizes sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure. Assists with pre and post procedure cleaning of the operative room and instruments. Ensure proper cleaning, preparation and setup of sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment to be used during surgery. Transport patients between care units, when needed. Properly handle transporting and disposition of specimens and cultures. Obtain blood products from Transfusion Services and responsible for return of unused products. Assist staff with room turnover. Operation of assigned cleaning machines and/or equipment. All other assigned duties related to attending the operating room. Education and Experience High School Diploma Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations Basic Life Skills Certification (BLS) Skills and Abilities Ability to apply principles of sterile technique Ability to learn and understand the duties of a Scrub Tech before, during, and after surgery Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships This role will interact cordially and effectively with all patients, their family members, and OR Staff Physical Capabilities While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds. There are extended periods of time standing and/or frequent walking. Environmental/Working Conditions The person in this role is exposed to indoor varying temperatures. This position is subject to indoor temperature changes. Work done intraoperative is performed in a high-risk area for exposure to blood borne pathogens.
