Starting pay rate: $100K-$105K (depending on education) Villa Maria School is a 12 month program that provides educational and clinical services for children with significant emotional, behavioral, and learning challenges. We offer multiple programs serving students from kindergarten through 8th grade in small classrooms (up to nine students) who are experiencing emotional, behavioral and learning challenges such that their local school system refers them to VMS for placement. Catholic Charities of Baltimore, is seeking an Assistant Principal who helps in the administration and supervision of 12-month elementary and middle school programs and staff at Villa Maria School, a Level V educational setting, serving children with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities. The work schedule is: Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:00pm Our dedicated classroom staff, support teams, and clinicians offer a host of services in a team environment where we strive to meet each child's unique needs. Together with parents, we help our children become better learners, understand their feelings, and change their behaviors. Job Duties & Responsibilities: Manages program coverage by developing and reviewing daily schedules, ensuring appropriate staffing for all classrooms. Directly responsible for continuity of operations in the absence of the Principal, under the direction of the Director of Education. Acts as liaison for Villa Maria School in meetings with parents, residential staff, counselors, and outside agencies, ensuring accurate communication and consistency across student plans and school policies. Oversees the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), including coaching teachers on IEP writing, reviewing progress documentation, and conducting meetings to align on strategies and goals. Directly accountable for supervising assigned staff: includes hiring, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and conducting formal reviews to drive team performance and retention. Contributes to school leadership as an active member of the School Management Team, participating in strategic planning, problem-solving, and school improvement initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned Education & Experience Requirements: Master's Degree in Special Education or related field, certification in Special Education by the Maryland State Department of Education is preferred. A Bachelor's Degree in Education, Health Services or a related field is required. Five years' experience in a special education setting including experience in leadership and supervision. Excellent knowledge of case management and crisis intervention services. Certification/Licensure: Certification in Special Education by the Maryland State Department of Education is preferred. Successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and CARE offered after hire. Requirements & Abilities: Requires ability to use the CARE (Children and Residential Experiences) model to influence and guide all interactions and philosophy of support for children, families, and colleagues. Demonstrates patience and composure when working with children and interacting with parents, fostering positive relationships. Effectively prioritizes tasks and delegates activities as appropriate to ensure optimal workflow and productivity. Possesses the ability to influence and engage staff, fostering motivation and teamwork. Utilizes effective conflict resolution skills to address issues and maintain a positive work environment. Physical Requirements & Work Environment: No remote or hybrid work availability based on core and essential functions of the position. Adjusting or moving objects up to 50# in all directions, which may include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or repositioning items as necessary to perform job duties. Moving about to accomplish tasks or transitioning between different work sites, which may involve walking, standing, or traveling to various locations as required by the role. Requires physical ability to intervene and restrain children in crisis situations, including the ability to run, lift, bend, drop to knees quickly, and utilize full range of motion of hands, arms, shoulders, knees and legs for an extended period of time and throughout the workday. Hearing and vision abilities, with or without correction, sufficient to drive safely and effectively observe and communicate with others. Driving (Agency and/or personal vehicle) is required for this position. Driver must be at least 21 years of age, with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience, and a valid driver's license issued by the state of residence. There can be no state issued restrictions on the licenses that would impede driver's ability to operate the vehicle as required by the Agency, and there must not be more than three (3) points on their driving record.
