Job Description: Amherst College invites applications for the Research Laboratory Coordinator position. The Research Laboratory Coordinator is a full-time, year-round position, starting at $65,000 - commensurate with experience. Provides laboratory support for teaching and research in the biological sciences. Serves as the Laboratory Safety Coordinator for the Biology Department and Neuroscience Program. Oversees safety training and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including animal welfare and biosafety. Summary of Responsibilities: Serve as Biology and Neuroscience Laboratory Safety Coordinator. Oversee and implement all regulatory safety training for students, faculty, and staff engaged in teaching or research in the Biology Department and Neuroscience Program. Responsible for granting key card access to teaching and research spaces based on safety training. Respond to and report on laboratory safety incidents. Serve as the first point of contact for research-related emergencies in Biology and Neuroscience. Responsible for ensuring that teaching and research laboratories in the Biology Department and Neuroscience Program are in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including animal welfare, biosafety lab inspection, and disposal of medical and biohazardous waste. Responsible for shipments of all hazardous and/or biological materials. Purchase, dispense, and keep records on research-grade ethanol. Serve as assistant to the chair of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). Keep abreast of local, state, and federal regulations as they impact teaching and research activities in Biology and Neuroscience. Assist existing staff with tasks such as preparing media, autoclaving, and washing glassware Qualifications: Required Minimum education required: Bachelor's degree Minimum experience required: 1-3 years Minimum experience in lieu of education requirement: 5-7 years Successful CORI check result Required reference and background checks Preferred Prior experience in a research laboratory setting is strongly preferred Prior experience with laboratory safety and/or compliance preferred, but not required Amherst College is pleased to provide a comprehensive, highly competitive benefits package that meets the needs of staff and faculty and their families.
