Applications Chemist

We're seeking an innovative and detail-driven chemist to join our R&D team in developing and refining water-based coating solutions used in flexographic, gravure, and lithographic printing applications. This role plays a key part in product formulation, testing, and supporting day-to-day technical operations-from customer support and raw material analysis to regulatory compliance and quality management. Key Responsibilities: Develop, test, and evaluate water-based coatings tailored for graphic arts printing technologies. Carry out hands-on lab testing using established methods and experimental procedures designed independently or by others. Provide technical insights and guidance to support both internal teams and customers with product performance and troubleshooting. Record and interpret laboratory data clearly and accurately, offering conclusions and recommendations. Collaborate with Sales, Production, Quality Control, and the Technical Service Group to ensure product success and smooth implementation. Support regulatory and compliance efforts, including ISO 9001 standards and waste handling protocols. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory workspace and ensure proper functioning of equipment. Respond promptly and professionally to technical inquiries and assist in the delivery of training when needed. Contribute to longer-term R&D projects and stay current with industry trends, materials, and methods. The Successful Applicant: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field OR 5+ years of experience in a chemical product development or applications lab. Strong technical acumen in lab practices and analytical testing; ability to manage multiple projects. Familiarity with graphic arts coatings and water-based chemistries preferred. Skilled in using lab instrumentation such as Brookfield viscometers, COF testers, Cobb testers, Sutherland rub testers, and more. Effective communicator with solid written and verbal reporting skills. Able to work independently with minimal oversight, yet highly collaborative when needed. Demonstrates sound adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory policies. What's on Offer: Competitive salary ranging from $65,000 to $80,000 depending on experience.
