Cardiovascular Operating Room Nurse Practitioner
Works closely with surgeons in providing patient care in both a hospital and office clinic setting. This position assists CVT surgeons in providing patient consultation and evaluation; assistance with surgical procedures in the operating room and other locations; coordination of admissions and discharges. This position is also responsible to provide documentation of services provided in compliance with established medical records, medical staff and billing procedures. This position is required to take call every fifth weekday and every fifth weekend. Education Qualifications
Must be a graduate of an accredited PA/APRN program. Meets educational preparation or other qualifications within specified time frames as determined/outlined by specific department policy. Experience Qualifications
Experience in cardiovascular patient care. Preferred OR First Assist experience. Preferred Endovascular vein harvesting experience. Preferred Skills and Abilities
All APRN incumbents are required to maintain Registered Nurse competencies as designated by Federal and State organizations and as outlined in SVH policy. (Required proficiency) Licenses and Certifications
Registered Nurse - KSBN Must have valid APRN licensure. Be certified as a nurse practitioner by a recognized national certifying body that has established standards for nurse practitioners. Required or Physician Assistant (PA) - KSBHA Required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - ACLS Required within 4 months of hire. Additional certification may be required in certain patient care settings or populations. The department director will provide specific information and the time frame in which such certification may be attained at the time of hire/transfer into department. What You Will Do
Perform duties in surgery to include: (supervising surgeon is always present) o First assist o Harvesting of vascular conduits o Using and handling instruments o Assisting in providing exposure (retraction, suction) o Handling tissue o Suturing o Providing hemostasis Make daily inpatient rounds and record pertinent patient progress in charts. Perform postoperative follow-up care inpatient and ambulatory to include: o Remove sutures, staples o Incise and drain superficial skin infections o Debride, suture care for superficial wounds o Change/remove wound dressings o Initiate emergency resuscitation and stabilization measures on any patient as required o Insertion and/or removal of catheter/tubes to include chest tubes, necklines, arterial lines o Removal of pacing wires Complete progress/consult notes and care for patients as per organizational bylaws Write orders, standing orders, and document pertinent data in hospital charts for review and counter signature by surgeon. Perform histories and physicals. Prescribe medications and intravenous fluids. Ensures that care delivered to patients is provided according to the Stormont-Vail HealthCare mission, strategic plans, and all internal/external regulations, policies and procedures. Practices within the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and within the guidelines of management protocols. Supports the established care models of Stormont Vail Regional Health Center. Has prescriptive authority per Kansas Nurse Practice Act and SVHC protocols. Initiate consultation and monitor patients for special tests. Dictate or write progress notes, consults notes, and discharge summaries. Provide patient education and discharge instructions. Provide preliminary assessment and interpretation of various diagnostic studies including laboratory tests, electrocardiograms and radiologic studies. Arrange patient admissions and dismissals to include referral of patients to appropriate healthcare facilities, agencies, other resources in the community, or other physicians. Communicates with families, employers, institutions and other healthcare providers regarding patient's treatment and status. Assumes on-call responsibilities as assigned. Incumbents will maintain bedside nursing skills by providing three flexible bedside nursing shifts per month and may be designated to work at the bedside for further shifts. Maintenance of skills work and assignment at bedside will be determined by leadership. Required for All Jobs
