Job Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mid to Senior Data Analyst to join our Data Transformation Program based in McLean, VA. This individual will play a critical role in understanding, analyzing, and transforming large-scale datasets to support a major enterprise-wide data migration and governance initiative. The role demands a blend of technical acumen, business insight, and documentation expertise to ensure that all transformation logic and data lineage are clearly articulated and aligned with organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities: Perform comprehensive data profiling on both source and target systems to evaluate structure, quality, completeness, and readiness for migration.
Analyze and decode complex ETL workflows, with a strong focus on IBM DataStage, to extract, reverse-engineer, and document business and transformation rules.
Design and maintain detailed source-to-target (S2T) mapping specifications, including transformation logic, conditional filters, field derivations, and join strategies.
Engage proactively with business stakeholders, data engineers, solution architects, and data governance teams to gather, interpret, and validate data requirements and trace end-to-end lineage.
Accurately document metadata, business term definitions, and mapping logic in Collibra, ensuring consistent alignment with enterprise data standards and policies.
Support testing, data validation, and reconciliation by comparing transformed data against expected outcomes and investigating discrepancies via lineage tracing.
Lead efforts to enforce documentation and metadata standards, improve data quality practices, and mentor junior analysts on best practices in data management and analytics.
Required Experience and Skills: 5+ years of experience in a Data Analyst or Technical Business Analyst role, with a core focus on data transformation, ETL analysis, or data migration projects.
Strong command of SQL for querying, profiling, and validating large volumes of structured data.
Deep expertise in ETL toolsets, especially IBM DataStage, with the ability to analyze and translate intricate transformation workflows into business-understandable rules.
Proven ability to create robust source-to-target mappings, transformation rules, and data documentation.
Hands-on experience using Collibra for metadata management, business glossary development, and data lineage capture.
Exceptional analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
Self-starter who can work independently and lead cross-functional discussions on data-related topics.
Preferred Qualifications: Working knowledge of modern data platforms such as Snowflake, NoSQL databases, and GraphQL-based APIs.
Understanding of data governance frameworks, enterprise data models, and compliance-oriented environments.
Background in financial services, insurance, or regulatory reporting environments is highly desirable.
Experience working with JSON, XML, or other API-based data exchange formats.
Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the Data Lead or Program Manager of the Data Transformation Program.
