Nursing Supervisor

The Administration for Children's Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community. The Administration for Children's Services (ACS) Office of Child and Family Health (OCFH) delivers direct medical services to children entering foster care and ensures that the physical and mental health care provided to children in ACS's care is comprehensive and appropriate. OCFH also offers individualized case consultations and training to ACS staff and foster care agencies on a variety of health-related topics and provides clinical expertise in developing medical and mental health policies that support best case practice agency wide. The Office of Child and Family Health is seeking to hire a Nursing Supervisor to oversee operations of medical support for Specialized Care Unit (SCU) and specialized medical cases. Under direct supervision of Director of MRAM and Executive Director of Clinical Programs and Services, the Nursing Supervisor will: - Manage nursing and ancillary staff time and leave, conduct annual and ad hoc performance evaluations and regular ongoing one to one supervision with unit staff. - Review and evaluate medical services for children with special medical needs in foster care. - Identify and screen case reviews for children with special medical needs. - Train, coordinate, and supervise the SCU nursing staff to meet OCFH program objectives. - Supervise and participate in scheduling nursing visits to skilled nursing facility placements for SCU. - Attend and actively participate in service plan reviews for all medically fragile children assigned to SCU team. - Convey information, policy and health standards clarifications to SCU and ACS staff OCFH/OCFS/ACS policies and procedures. - Participate in all quality monitoring activities related to SCU medical supervision. - Review medical consent override requests from foster care agencies and communicate medical and legal decisions back to foster care agencies and medical facilities. - Participate in review and collect medical documentation for non-Medicaid reimbursable requests. - Examine various requests, forms, and other documentation submitted to the unit to ensure that ACS guidelines are followed. - Oversee and monitor medical records reviews from ACS's contracted agencies for children with special medical needs. - Collaborate on internal projects within OCFH unit. - Actively participate in staff/unit meetings. - Other duties as assigned by Executive Director. Preferred Skills The preferred candidate should possess the following: a minimum of (3) years of recent pediatric and adolescent nursing including a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a nursing supervisor/manager; experience with charts or utilization reviews, working knowledge of applicable computer-based software (Microsoft 365 apps). Candidates with experience in pediatric or adolescent psychiatry or in child welfare are highly preferred. A valid New York State Registered Nurse License is required. Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is preferred.
