Staff Perfusionist
The primary function of the staff perfusionist is the safe operation and management of extracorporeal circulation equipment (heart/lung machine, veno-venous bypass, ventricular assist devices, extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation) during any medical or surgical procedure where it is necessary to support or replace the patients cardiopulmonary/circulatory function (open-heart surgery, liver transplantation, etc.). In addition, the staff perfusionist is responsible for the set-up, delivery, management, maintenance, and operation of other relevant ancillary services, devices, and equipment (i.e intra-aortic balloon pumps, autologous blood recovery systems, ventricular assist devices (VAD), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), point of care (POC) laboratory testing equipment). This position requires providing service for adults (1864 years), older adults (65 years and older), and the frail elderly in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served. There is call (after hours, weekends) required. Holiday call is also required. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in healthcare field preferred. New graduates, as well as experienced perfusionists, will be considered for employment. Staff perfusionists are required to be licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine or the Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine and renewed on a biannual basis. Staff perfusionists are required to be certified (CCP) by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. Or certification eligible by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ACP). This certification must be renewed annually. Must be graduate of an accredited perfusion school unless began perfusion career prior to April 15, 1981. IF perfusion career started before April 15, 1981, must have 2 years of college (60 credits) with an emphasis in science.
