At Martin Luther King Jr. Behavioral Health Center (MLK BHC), we provide residential substance use disorder treatment, case management services including linkages, referrals, and community reintegration, and recovery support services to adults healing from addiction and people who are referred to treatment as part of criminal justice deferment. This program is contracted with the Department of Public Health's Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) program for up to 33 men who are judicially involved, 33 men, and 33 women to provide a continuum of services for low-income or Medi-Cal population. The Therapist I is a registered professional who maintains a current registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS). The Therapist I is responsible for clinical assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, interventions, crisis interventions, and discharge planning. The Therapist I works in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible treatment outcome for the client and provide treatment in accordance with HealthRIGHT 360's philosophy, goals, policies, mission, and vision. The Therapist I may provide treatment utilizing different modalities including individual, group, and family therapy. Services may be provided in outpatient office, residential treatment, or the field, based on client and program need. The Therapist I participates in the on-call rotation and may be required to respond after hours. This is a union position. Key Responsibilities Direct Service: Provide thorough clinical assessments and diagnoses. Work with the client to develop the client-centered treatment plans. Monitor treatment progress and update the treatment plan as needed. Address mental health and/or substance abuse symptoms using individual, group, and/or family treatment. Provide thoughtful discharge planning to ensure the client's safe transitions. Provide crisis assessment and intervention as needed. Seek clinical consultation throughout the treatment episode and when encountering new and/or high-risk clinical circumstances. Work collaboratively with other members of the treatment team including the Case Manager, Counselor, Medical, and Psychiatrist. Maintain frequent communication with the treatment team and engage in regular consultations, clinical team, case conferences, and plan development meetings. Deliver services in outpatient, residential, or field depending on assignments and client need. Assist with crisis assessment, crisis intervention, and symptom management within assigned programs by providing 24-hour 7-day per week after-hours coverage on rotation with other Clinical Therapists. Meet expected client care hours (productivity expectation is 25 client care hours per week). Clinical Documentation: Write and complete all progress notes within 72 hours of service delivery. Maintain compliance with due dates for all clinical documentation including assessment, treatment plan, treatment plan updates, re-assessments, discharges, outcome measures, and other clinical documents. Write client progress letters and court reports and obtain final approval from the supervisor. Documentation must be maintained in compliance with agency policy and procedures, HIPAA, 42-CFR, DMH, and SAPC standards. Complete all assigned URCs in a timely manner. Administrative: Maintain full compliance with BBS regulations. Attend and actively participate in Clinical Group Supervision. Actively participate in agency and team meetings. Participate in training opportunities and pursue certifications in Evidence Based Practices. Communicate collaboratively with all members of the behavioral health team including medical, mental health, psychiatry, substance use disorder, and other staff. Complete all assigned training and Relias trainings in a timely manner. Arrange work schedule in accordance with the agency's needs. Attend regular staff meetings and other meetings as assigned. Read emails daily and respond when appropriate. And perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education, Certification, or Licensure Masters degree from an accredited college. Possess a valid and current registration with the CA BBS (AMFT, APCC, ACSW). Possess current first aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of start date. Experience Two years experience treating clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders desired. Competencies Knowledge of client-centered approach, strengths-based approach, harm reduction, recovery model, and trauma-informed care. Strong de-escalation and crisis intervention skills. Proficient with clinical documentation and EHR systems. Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft applications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work cooperatively with a multidisciplinary team and to work with clients of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to enter data into various electronic systems while maintaining integrity and accuracy of data. Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner. Ability to work flexible hours as needed. Bilingual preferred. Must complete background check or livescan clearance.
