Data Catalog Engineer
Analytica is seeking a technically skilled Data Catalog Engineer to lead the administration, integration, and technical optimization of our client's Microsoft Purview environment. In this hands-on role, you will own the end-to-end management of the Purview platform, enabling automated metadata capture, data classification, and enterprise-wide discoverability of data assets. This role is best suited for an engineer or administrator with experience in cloud data ecosystems, platform integration, and metadata architecturesomeone who can bridge infrastructure, governance, and analytics needs. Key Responsibilities Serve as the technical owner and administrator for Microsoft Purview, configuring collections, scan rules, integration pipelines, and access controls. Automate metadata ingestion and lineage capture from Azure services (Synapse, ADLS, SQL DBs, Power BI) and external sources (Snowflake, SAP, Oracle, etc.). Build and maintain custom classifiers, sensitivity labels, and data asset registration routines. Integrate Purview with existing data pipelines, CI/CD workflows, or APIs for catalog updates. Design and maintain technical metadata models, business glossaries, and term hierarchies. Troubleshoot and optimize Purview scans, self-hosted IRs, and service dependencies. Implement RBAC and access policies for secure catalog usage. Collaborate with data engineers, platform teams, and stewards to improve metadata quality and catalog adoption. Stay current on Microsoft roadmap updates and evolving best practices in metadata management. Minimum Qualifications 4+ years of experience in cloud data engineering, platform administration, or data governance technology roles. 1+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview in a production or enterprise setting. Deep familiarity with Azure Data Services: Synapse, Data Lake Gen2, Azure SQL, Power BI. Proficiency with PowerShell, Azure CLI, or Python for platform automation and API use. Understanding of data catalog structures, metadata types, and data lineage concepts. Experience configuring RBAC, collections, and managed identities in Azure. Ability to troubleshoot scanning issues, IR agent errors, and permission gaps across data sources. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks, or non-Azure metadata sources. Exposure to CI/CD integration, DevOps practices, or API-based platform management. Familiarity with compliance requirements (GDPR, HIPAA, FedRAMP) and data classification frameworks. Microsoft certifications in Azure Data Engineering, Purview, or Security. Soft Skills Strong documentation habits and platform discipline. Comfortable with direct support of clients. Detail-oriented, proactive in resolving system issues.
