The hiring range for this position is $68,899.00-$86,123.00/annually. The full salary range for this position is $68,899.00 - $107,654.00/annually. Direct supervision of Animal Care Protection Officers: Plans, assigns, monitors, and coordinates the work activities of personnel Maintains skills, knowledge, and abilities of Animal Protection Officers and performs those duties as required Ensures coverage for dispatch, euthanasia, cremation and front office duties Maintains roll call and approves leave requests Approves staff reports and summonses Makes recommendations regarding selecting, hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, and discipline of assigned employees Customer/Community Service: Receives and responds to citizen's complaints Conducts daily and weekly briefing and debriefings Addresses citizen groups and the media when required Oversees case filings at local and state levels Resolves problems and conflicts arising during the course of the work Testifies in court on behalf of the City Ensures effective enforcement of municipal and state animal care ordinances Maintains and enforces safety regulations and procedures Conducts field investigations/inspections Program Management: Coordinates the division's disaster planning program/meetings Assists in the pet licensing program Coordinates preventative maintenance programs Takes a lead role in the development of field related policies and procedures Prepares productivity and activity reports Maintains records and makes recommendations concerning materials, staff, equipment used and uniforms Makes recommendations regarding budgetary matters Familiar with the principles of computer systems with related software Maintains vehicle computers and laptops Monitors City vehicles assigned to Animal Services Division May perform additional duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications & Working Conditions An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Education: Associates Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Animal Sciences, Criminology or related field Experience: At least four (4) years progressively responsible experience in animal care/control, code enforcement, and/or related work Knowledge of: City of Aurora animal control ordinances and state laws pertaining to animals Kennel operations practices and procedures Care and handling of animals Portable and mobile radio operations and procedures Skills: Providing friendly service to customers Excellent interpersonal communication skills in handling animals Operation of equipment and tools of assigned function Abilities to: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, citizens, and peers in the animal welfare industry Handle difficult or stressful situations with tact and diplomacy Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Prioritize, coordinate, and make work assignments Fulfill goals and objectives Direct and effectively train and supervise other employees Licenses and Certifications Required: Driver's License Colorado Association of Animal Control Officer Certification (CAACO) must be in good standing at the time of application Ability to complete the Cities CORE 4 Values training within the first 12 months of hire Completion of the Cities Basic Supervisory Course within the first 12 months of hire Ability to certify, perform, train and assist others in Euthanasia within the first 6 months of hire All above certifications must be obtained and maintained as an Animal Care Protection Field Supervisor Working Conditions Essential Personnel: When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel. Physical Demands: Heavy physical work requiring ability to lift and carry animals and/or objects weighing up to 100 pounds with or without assistance. Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Regular walking and standing. Full range of body movements including pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, stooping/crouching, and climbing. Foot/eye coordination to operate equipment and motor vehicle. Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees, citizens and animals. Work is subject to bodily injury when dealing with animals. Repetitive motion associated with medical and surgical care. Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment. Vision to read reports, instructions and other written material as well as to record and interpret information. Work Environment: Work in inclement weather and with flexible schedules. Exposure to dust, water, animal dander, odors, cleaning chemicals, feces, and fumes. Work performed in high noise level areas. Equipment Used: Uses a variety of hand tools and equipment common to kennel, and cleaning operations. Motor vehicle. This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
