Adjunct Instructor - Game Theory & Design

The Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD) is seeking a Part-Time Adjunct Instructor for our Game Department to teach Game Theory & Design. This course introduces art students to fundamental concepts of game analysis and contemporary design theory. Students will explore core design concepts such as player agency, mechanics, metaphor, and accessibility through critical analysis of existing games. The course emphasizes theoretical foundations and analytical skills rather than physical prototyping. Key Course Topics: Critical analysis of game systems and mechanics Player agency and experience design Cultural and social contexts of games Theoretical frameworks for understanding games as media Contemporary issues in game design The successful candidate will guide students in developing a sophisticated understanding of game systems, foster thoughtful discussions on game aesthetics and cultural impact, and help students articulate how design choices affect player experience. Strong classroom management, discussion facilitation, and assessment skills are essential. Experience in game criticism, design theory, and familiarity with contemporary discourse in the field is required. This course is scheduled for in person sessions Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00am - 10:45am (EST). The position will begin August 2025. Position: Adjunct Instructor, part-time Qualifications: A BFA/MFA in art or design with a focus on coding, game design, or technology will be considered. Experience teaching at the college level is desired, but not required.
