Columbia Class Test Equipment Development Group

The Columbia Class Test Equipment Development group provides engineering support for the test programs supporting ships systems pertaining to Hull, Mechanical and Electrical (HM&E). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Work with Design and Materials group to develop (or revise existing) Engineered Drawings that meet test procedure or ship's system requirements. Drawing development may require interface with system engineers, EB Trades, Vendors, Purchasing, Program Office, and Ship's Management. Engineer or aid in the procurement of temporary support systems to provide temporary services to ship's systems. Perform Engineering calculations involving pressure, flow and stress analysis for various temporary fluid systems and fixtures. Mathcad and ANSYS are tools that are used to aid in analysis. Develop a high-level understanding of all shipboard systems in order to provide engineering support for testing during all phases of construction. Provide technical guidance and deck plate support to the shipyard test organization for resolving test issues in Groton, QP and off-site facilities. Create VREQs and provide dispositions for VIRs for material pertaining to drawings under the group's cognizance. Occasional extended hours and weekends will be required to support emergent work. Occasional travel to Quonset Point and other facilities will be required. The ideal candidate is one who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, welcomes constant interaction with the trades and STO, and is eager to learn more about the submarines that are being built. Qualifications

Required: Bachelor of Science in Engineering or higher 5+ years of engineering experience Shipyard construction experience Ability to obtain a DOD Secret security clearance or higher is required Preferred: General familiarity with submarine design with an emphasis on HM&E piping systems Experience using and navigating in Teamcenter and the Design process Directives (DpD) Submarine test program experience Project management experience Skills

Candidate must be highly motivated and able to perform independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in a team environment. This position requires the candidate to work with multiple EB design engineering and waterfront engineering organizations and have good interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
