Adjunct Teaching Positions
The Department of Kinesiology at Point Loma Nazarene University is seeking candidates for adjunct teaching positions. Salary: PLNU adjunct pay: Using a 3-unit full semester appointment as a pay guide, the adjunct pay range is $4,860 - $6,480. The units will determine the actual salary. Job Status: Part time The Department of Kinesiology is seeking candidates for adjunct teaching positions in the undergraduate programs (Applied Health Science and Exercise & Sport Science) and the (Master of Science in Kinesiology) to teach courses in one or more of the following areas: Biomechanics Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription Sport Management Exercise Physiology Strength Training Corrective Exercise Other courses Qualified applicants should have an advanced degree in Kinesiology or a closely-related field. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate effective teaching and service and will embrace the mission of Point Loma Nazarene University. A desire to involve students in research is also preferred. Responsibilities: Adjunct faculty members must have knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to effective undergraduate or graduate teaching. Adjuncts are also expected to have knowledge of ways to instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students and do the following: Teach undergraduate or graduate courses Invest in students Participate in institution activities as appropriate Involve students in research or professional experience as appropriate Qualifications: Ph.D., Ed.D. preferred; MA/MS accepted Experience in professional organizations related to the exercise science A thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education. A desire to work in an evangelical institution in the Wesleyan tradition. Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination. Potential for outstanding teaching Personal: Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition, faculty agree to live in agreement with PLNU's Community Life Covenant. Special Instructions: The number of adjunct instructors hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department. Please realize that there may not presently be an adjunct position available. When an opening becomes available for which you would be a good match, the department chair will be in contact with you for further dialogue, interviews, etc. Approved applicants will remain in the adjunct pool for the upcoming school year only. To be reconsidered for the following school year, applicants will need to reapply. If hired, official transcripts will be required from all undergraduate and graduate universities attended before a contract is issued.
