Clinical Psychologist Integrated Primary Care for Luke Air Force Base
Clinical Psychologist is to function in a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) location as a full-time equivalent provider as an internal behavioral health consultant (IBHC). Qualifications:
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited psychology program or a program acceptable to the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Air Force. Completed an APA-accredited internship/residency in professional psychology or an internship/residency acceptable to the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Air Force. Must have a minimum of one year experience as a licensed clinical psychologist. Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Psychologist. Have Active BLS through the American Heart Association. Must have one year of experience in the last three years in the evaluation and treatment of patients who have pain, psychological factors affecting their physical condition, or difficulty coping with medical problems. Clinical Psychologists must attend and pass the IBHC course upon start. Duties:
Provide brief (typically no more than four appointments) cognitive/behavioral interventions in primary care under the Air Force consultation model. May provide classes in a format appropriate for primary care. Work independently in the absence of direct oversight and adhere to Air Force values. Must be skillful and tactful in communicating with people who may be physically or mentally ill, uncooperative, fearful, emotionally distraught, and occasionally dangerous. Must possess organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills to articulate medical requirements to patients, families/caregivers, medical and non-medical staff in a professional and courteous way. Successfully consult with PCMs on-demand about general issues and specific patients. Ensure PCMs receive same-day verbal and/or written feedback on referred patients. Deliver brief presentations/trainings to primary care team members regarding behavioral health issues and IBHC services. Participate in team efforts to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise clinical pathway programs needed in the clinic. Provide concise documentation of care and recommendations in the patient's electronic medical records within the allowable timeframe defined by the MTF standard after the patient is seen. Effectively manage a full daily patient load, as defined by the Mental Health Business Practice Standards and BHOP Manual of completing approximately 8-14 patient encounters per day. Participate in Air Force-approved research projects relating to Primary Care Behavioral Health. Consult with medical personnel, legal authorities, and military commanders as required. Participate in military-specific training. Care Facilitator (CF) in PCMH. IBHCs who are assigned to MTFs that have between 3,000 and 7,500 adult enrollees in the Family Health Clinic will provide both IBHC and CF services per the BHOP Manual. Contact referred patients to assess medication treatment adherence for depression, anxiety, and PTSD disorders. Use validated brief symptom inventories to assess current symptom severity. Assess barriers to treatment adherence and help patient problem-solve solutions to barriers. Provide patients with education regarding their behavioral health condition and treatment regimen. Maintain patient information in a patient registry. Job Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To:
Independently assess the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their family members and formulate and implement a treatment plan. Independently conduct psychosocial assessments and provide psychosocial treatment to various individuals. Use medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities and treatment procedures. Implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families and groups. Independently provide counseling and/or psychotherapy services. Provide consultation services to other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients. Participate in and successfully complete Defense Health Agency Behavioral Health Consultant training. Consult with primary care managers, other medical personnel, legal authorities. Provide fitness-for-duty recommendations of active duty service member patients. Contact referred patients to assess medication treatment adherence. Use validated brief symptom inventories to assess. Assess barriers to treatment adherence and help patient problem-solve solutions.
