Practice Surgical Services Scheduler
The Practice Surgical Services Scheduler accurately and efficiently completes surgery scheduling of patients for providers in the practice surgery center and hospital setting. Validates appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes based on the review of the EMR prior to requesting an authorization from the Central Authorization team. Reviews work queues and completes case requests in the EMR. The Practice Surgical Services Scheduler works closely with the providers and clinical staff to ensure patients have an exceptional experience during their pre and post-surgery journey. The Practice Surgical Services Scheduler works in collaboration with other departments to ensure patients are ready for scheduling. The Practice Surgical Services Scheduler provides pre and post-surgical instructions using MyChart or US mail. Completes required forms or letters as necessary. The Practice Surgical Services Schedulers providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2 years experience performing surgery scheduling preferred. Knowledge of ICD 10 and CPT coding preferred. Knowledge of typical office equipment found in a medical practice such as EMR telephone fax machine copy machine calculator postage machine etc. Must be able to read and interpret data in an EMR. Must be able to problem solve independently and/or with other members of the team. Must be able to demonstrate a positive attitude when working independently and as a productive member of the team. Must be flexible and able to prioritize workload. Must demonstrate an understanding of HIPAA in the healthcare setting. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to remain calm and function effectively in high stress situations. Must be able to type at least 45-50 wpm. Ability to perform the majority of work on a computer 70-75 percent of the time. Must be able to sit for extended periods of time. Work that produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue e.g. interactive and repetitive detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time. The job produces some physical demands. Typical of jobs that include regular walking sitting standing stooping bending lifting and some light lifting. Schedules cases accurately and efficiently in the EMR with minimal errors. Communicates with all internal and external customers using excellent customer service skills when communicating via email MyChart letter in person or telephone. Verifies patient and health insurance information is current and complete in the EMR. Schedules for anesthesia surgeons and endoscopy including the appropriate ancillary departments when needed. Analyzes and interprets physician order forms/surgery worksheets to ensure they are complete. Works closely with the Central Authorization team. Trains new employees. Other administrative duties assigned as determined by practice needs.
