Phlebotomy Technician 1
The phlebotomy technician 1 will be responsible for performing venipunctures to collect blood samples for laboratory analysis while ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of collection techniques, patient interaction, and the management of laboratory specimens. The phlebotomist will work closely with healthcare professionals to facilitate accurate diagnoses and promote patient well-being. Additionally, phlebotomists play a crucial role in maintaining medical records, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and delivering compassionate care to patients in potentially stressful situations. Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue e.g. interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e. 20 pounds or less), and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients. Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed and some fatiguing physical motions are required. Responsibilities: Perform venipunctures and capillary collections for blood samples. Ensure proper identification of patients and confirm test orders. Maintain a clean and safe working environment in compliance with health and safety standards. Demonstrate commitment to Bronson's Standards for Excellence and safety protocols. Label and handle specimens accurately to prevent recollection or mislabeling. Document all procedures, results, and patient interactions in the health information system. Educate patients on the blood collection process and address any concerns they may have. Collaborate with laboratory staff and healthcare professionals to ensure efficient workflow. Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent completion of an accredited phlebotomy program preferred. Strong understanding of medical terminology and laboratory practices. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient interactions. Strong ability to communicate effectively across both internal and external customers and teams. Ability to work under pressure and handle stressful situations with professionalism. Detail-oriented with keen observational skills to ensure accuracy. Basic competency in using electronic health records (EHR) and laboratory information systems (LIS). Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize task efficiently.
