Lilly has initiated a multi-year Lab transformation program that will enable 1) simplified, standardized, and optimized Laboratory processes, 2) innovation and agility for unprecedented growth with new sites, modalities, and partnerships, and 3) modernization of solution infrastructure by moving to cloud-based solutions and advanced technology. The Tech@Lilly Global Lab Operations team is actively looking for a highly skilled and experienced Systems Engineer to join our team. What You'll Be Doing Manage Empower configuration, validation, and maintenance of the system, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards. Implement tools to enhance the Empower system, including the adoption of AI to minimize user workload and integration with ELN and LES solutions. Manage SmartLab configuration, validation, and maintenance of the system to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and industry standards. As an Engineer - Systems Engineering - Labs, you will work with business SMEs (Quality Control and Operational Excellence teams), cross-functional solution architects, and third-party service providers on the design, configuration, and implementation of various projects. You will use technical and business process knowledge to inform strategy and design choices that support program goals of standardized and streamlined processes and sustainable solutions. How You Will Succeed Collaborate with business stakeholders and cross-functional solution architects within the Labs, as well as architects within the broader Quality function, to design reliable and efficient solutions for the manufacturing laboratories. Work in partnership with the application architects to influence the technical direction of software vendors, service providers, and service delivery teams. Leverage your understanding of the laboratory environment, emerging technologies, and system functionalities to foresee future system requirements and business needs. Develop robust, stable, and resilient solutions with appropriate support processes, effective monitoring, and advanced error handling to ensure the continuity of business operations. Ensure the compatibility, integration, interoperability, stability, scalability, and usability of products/services proposed as standards to ensure an integrated architecture across interdependent technologies. Communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and influence decision making at senior leadership level. Drive the site adoption of assigned solutions, ensuring consistency with Digital Strategy, and using awareness of internal and external trends in collaboration with the Business SMEs. Coach and Mentor peers (Lilly colleagues and external consultants) to ensure technical capability is maintained at a level commensurate with the criticality of delivered solutions. Review and approve documentation related to areas of responsibility (Validation Lifecycle documents, SOPs, policies, implemented IQPQ protocols, etc.) as appropriate. Ensure adherence to all quality, compliance, and data integrity requirements. Establish key relationships with business users and other Tech@Lilly areas. What You Should Bring Demonstrated experience working in one or more core Lilly execution systems such as LES (SmartLab), CDS (Empower), ELN (NuGenesis), and LIMS (LabVantage). Proficiency in SQL or other databases, Windows Server, Advanced Analytics, and REST APIs. Understanding of technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Augmented Reality (AR), Data Modeling, Cloud Computing (Azure/AWS), and Robotics. Proven ability to lead a cross-functional team of business SMEs and third-party vendors to deliver high-value solutions on time and with the right level of quality. Ability to influence modern architectural design and drive the right strategic decisions to ensure global scalability and supportability. Strong understanding of Quality processes in IT applicable to Manufacturing Laboratories. Experience supporting critical GMP processes and working on a regulated industry. Excellent initiative and self-management skills as well as ability to lead teams, influence others and manage conflict. Your Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering/Technology, Information Technology, Security, or another relevant field. Minimum 10 years of professional experience delivering or supporting enterprise IT platforms within a highly regulated industry. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Additional Preferences Master's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering/Technology, Information Technology, Security, or another relevant field. Knowledge of Pharma and Manufacturing including industry trends and emerging technologies in related technologies. Solid skills in problem analysis and problem solving. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills. Proven teamwork/interpersonal skills. Passion for working on a team from diverse backgrounds. Familiarity with Agile concepts, methodology, and framework. Other Information Position based in Indianapolis, Indiana with a hybrid work model.
