About the Position
Foursquare is looking for a
Data Scientist
to join our team in our
Seattle
office; on a
hybrid schedule of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in office.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable in a fluid start-up environment and will bring an energetic, fun, and creative approach to their work. They should be a motivated self-starter with exceptional analytic and problem-solving skills. Industry experience in predictive modeling, data science and strategic analytics with large datasets is preferred. We're eager to meet those who are interested in location-based services, learning new skills on an advanced platform, and pushing out tons of high quality work quickly.
Our engineering organization has transitioned to a performance system that prioritizes experience, skills, and impact over traditional hierarchy.
By simplifying titles and focusing on market-based levels , we aim to cultivate a high-performing, team-based environment where collaboration and innovation are at the heart of everything we do. While our titles no longer include conventional levels like 'Senior' or 'Director,' we expect all members of our Engineering organization to embrace principled thinking and truth-seeking as we work together to pursue the best ideas and solutions for our business.

In this role you'll Leverage Foursquare's unique foot traffic and location data to develop strategic insights and innovative applications. Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and sales teams to optimize B2B products and improve overall product quality. Design and implement algorithms, models, and analytics workflows using SQL, Python/PySpark, and machine learning techniques. Translate complex data science methodologies into clear, actionable insights for cross-functional stakeholders and clients. Work hands-on with large-scale, geospatial datasets in a fast-paced, startup-like environment. Continuously experiment with emerging tools, methods, and models to push the boundaries of what's possible with location-based data. What you'll need
3+ years work experience as a data scientist or in analytics, working with big datasets Extensive experience in the following fields (any): data science, modeling, machine learning, deep learning, (big) data analytics, data normalization, geospatial data science, causal inference Expertise in SQL and Python/Pyspark An understanding of data science and machine learning concepts, with hands-on experience with a broad range of research & analytics tools, including emerging tolls and methods. Experience with embedding models and/or ranking models is considered a plus Familiarity with working with location data and an ability to clearly understand complex underlying data assets Ability to distill complex data science concepts and methodology, and articulate insights to cross-functional teams and clients with varying levels of knowledge in this space A solid understanding of data structures and algorithms is nice to have Must be a self-motivated team player and comfortable working in a small, fast paced, exciting environment Perks and benefits

At Foursquare, we're committed to offering competitive pay and benefits that reflect market standards and the unique strengths each candidate brings. Actual compensation is based on a variety of factors, including skills, experience, and office location. We also regularly review our compensation practices to ensure fairness, equity, and alignment with evolving market trends.
The estimated annual total cash compensation range for this role is
$120,000 - $180,000.
While final offers may vary slightly based on individual qualifications, we aim to stay within this published range to support pay equity and transparency across the organization.
Salary is just one part of our total compensation package, which also includes restricted stock units, comprehensive health insurance options, and a wide range of benefits.
