Transplant unit Blake 6 Blake 6 is seeking a Patient Care Associate (PCA), with Day and Night availability, to provide rotating weekend and holiday coverage. The Transplant Unit is a twenty-one-bed special care unit located in Boston, MA. These beds are designated for acutely ill, organ transplant patients. The patient population on Blake 6, is comprised of pre and post renal, pancreas, liver, cardiac and lung transplant recipients. Additionally, patients may be admitted to the Transplant Unit for treatment of acute allograft rejection, opportunistic infections and soft tissue infections. Long term allograft recipients who require other surgical procedures may also be admitted to Blake 6. Patients range in age from 15 to 70 + years. The unit is HEPA filtered and pressurized (positive) to help protect this immunocompromised population. Job Summary Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions: Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intakes, and outputs with accuracy and within established time frame and/or as requested. Completes all documentation in the medical record as required. Interacts with patients and their families effectively. Helps patients with a few basic hygiene tasks. This may include bathing and dressing patients, helping them use the toilet if needed, and feeding them. Assist with helping patients turn and reposition themselves in bed as needed and help them move between the bed and a wheelchair if they use one. Listens to any health concerns patients may have and report those concerns to the nurses. Duties may vary by department. Qualifications What are we looking for? Assisting the healthcare team, the PCA promotes a safe and caring environment for patients under the mentorship of an RN. PCA assists patients with daily living needs, monitoring & reading vital signs, drawing blood, and obtaining EKGs. Responds to patient requests in a timely manner, safeguarding patient confidentiality, monitoring patient safety, and always communicating in a respectful manner. What do we have to offer? Required: Must have recent experience, and/or training, in clinical patient care. Preferred: Licensed, certified or enrolled student in a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or EMT accredited Program, At the time of hire, or candidate enrolled in a Nursing, pre-Med, PA Undergraduate Program, with at least one semester of patient care rotations completed, at time of hire.
