Janitor Position
The Janitor cleans and maintains the store and store front on a routine, regular basis keeping the premises free from safety hazards. Essential duties and responsibilities (which could be done several times during a single shift): Keep the floors clean by sweeping, mopping or scrubbing them thoroughly; remove slippery, gummy or sticky substances from floors as needed Gather trash and garbage from entire store and front sidewalk as needed replacing with an empty trash/garbage bag; place all trash into the dumpster behind the store Service, clean and stock supplies in all bathrooms; servicing includes but is not limited to unclogging sinks, drains and toilets; cleaning includes but is not limited to floors, toilets, sinks and trash receptacles; supplies include but are not limited to toilet paper, hand towels and hand soap Routinely walk the store during scheduled shift to ensure floors are clean and there are no visible safety hazards; clear aisles of any obstructions; observe fire codes; and alert management of any possible safety hazards Routinely and thoroughly clean the tables and surrounding areas in the store caf and bakery Maintain backroom storage area of job-related supplies neat and orderly Keep an inventory of job-related supplies, such as paper products, toiletries and cleaning materials; Notify manager to order supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties Keep janitorial cart organized and supplied with needed cleaning products, equipment and tools Notify manager or designee when using cleaning items from the shelf for "store use" Keep work area clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards Immediately attend to spills on the floor isolating the area from customers using cones or carts to block off the area, followed by thoroughly cleaning the floor Politely greet and interact with customers with a smile and provide excellent customer service; attend to customers' needs when looking for store merchandise Notify manager immediately if hazardous situations occur such as a slip-and-fall Notify manager concerning the need for major repairs Attend and/or participate in store or department meetings Performs other work-related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position Punctual and good attendance in compliance with company policies Secondary duties and responsibilities: Clean store windows monthly or as needed Assist with the store and parking lot clean up after stormy weather or hurricane Qualifications
Minimum requirements - education and/or experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; minimum of 18 years of age Competencies, skills and/or qualifications: Ability to read and speak English and Spanish preferred Ability to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferred Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations with managers, customers (both internal and external) and the general public Good interpersonal skills; ability to work well with others and have a good relationship with the public Takes responsibility for own actions Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form Clear understanding of cleaning chemicals and how they work when mixed together. Ability to mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications Ability to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekends Ability to work overtime, as necessary, in order to complete assignments or reach goals Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: Stand and walk Use fingers and hands Reach with hands and arms Repetitive movement with arms and shoulders Carry, lift and/or move departmental products and merchandise Push and pull carts of departmental products and merchandise Ability to see including close vision and peripheral vision The employee is frequently required to: Talk and hear Stoop or bend at the waist Twist back and neck Use sense of smell The employee is occasionally required to: Climb step stool or ladder, maintain balance Crouch or bend at the knees The individual performs duties in a grocery store environment. He or she maintains frequent contact with supervisors, employees and customers. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate. In this position, there is the possibility of using a mop, broom, dust pan, putty knife or scraper, stepstool, janitorial cart, shopping carts, cleaning supplies and solvents, brushes, rags, and other cleaning equipment.
