Education Graduate from an accredited program for medical assistants with one year in a medical office setting preferred. Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required within the hiring period. Experience / Qualifications One or more years experience as a medical assistant Medical Assistance Certification preferred. Knowledge of the outpatient practice of medicine. Must have experience in medical assisting. Knowledge of medical practice, patient care skills, examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Knowledge of Healthcare Scheduling Software preferred. Must possess computer skills and customer service skills. Capable of making sound decisions. Detail oriented and self motivated. Position Summary The Medical Assistant II is a multi skilled specialist who supports the Physician Practice Manager in all aspects of the medical practice under the direct responsibility of the physician. Responsibilities include training Medical Assistants in all clinical and office practices. Oversees patient care management, executes administrative and clinical procedures and performs supervisory functions pertaining to position. Competency requires that the medical assistant adheres to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize and respond to emergencies and demonstrates professional characteristics. Responsibilities include: Ensure a chaperone is present at exam. Assists clinical personnel during visit. Remain with patient during exam. Ensures clinical staffing and scheduling. Reviews clinical reports. Maintains controlled substance inventory. Conducts "code" and other emergency office drills. Maintains inventory for crash cart. Reviews and disposes of any services (i.e., post-op, OB, Follow-up on consults, etc.) triages in-office emergencies. Educates patients in diet, preparation for procedures, administration of medicine, risks, and precautions. Scheduling Responsibilities: Responsible for the accurate scheduling of all related surgical procedures and pre-admission testing appointments, in coordination with all other resource providers (i.e. Anesthesia); according to provider preferences, and patient condition. Ability to brainstorm with members of the JMCPG team, the OR team and related physicians to accommodate all departmental customers. Performs other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements This job can be physically demanding at times requiring stooping, sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time. The team member will need to frequently assist lifting patients and heavy equipment. Must be able to work in a stressful environment, work independently, making sound decisions, detail oriented, alert, and self-motivated. Ability to push/pull up to 40lbs, carry and lift up to 50lbs.
