Process Engineer
Kemin Food Technologies is seeking a Process Engineer to join our Proteins team. In this role, you will work closely with customers to specify, design, and create detailed drawings for pumps, tanks, mixers, and other equipment used to hydrate powdered ingredients for use in food processing. You will also play a key role in coordinating equipment fabrication and installation. The ideal candidate will have a background in process, chemical, or mechanical engineering, with hands-on experience in dry or powdered ingredient applications and hydromechanics. This position is located in Des Moines, Iowa and expected to travel up to 60% of the time to customer facilities in refrigerated food processing plants across the US and Canada. Responsible for application development aspects within processing plant operations that apply Kemin ingredients to their products, including identifying process methods, procedures, and equipment to apply Kemin products. Focus on designing and drawing equipment to hydrate powdered ingredients and meter to existing food processing lines. Seamless integration with existing processes, while ensuring safety as a key consideration in development of all. Understand the chemical and physical requirements of a process and determine proper equipment to be used to meet product specifications. Provide technical support to production efforts by optimizing and installing production equipment, problem solving and executing process design. Follows and maintains an environment of food and/or feed safety in compliance with rules and regulations, as applicable. Liaise with customers to understand needs, restrictions, requirements of equipment to be installed within their facility. Design, test, install, and maintain manufacturing plant equipment and machinery, including pilot plant and large-scale manufacturing. Under guidance and using instructions and pre-established guidelines, utilize computer design software and equipment to perform assignments. Apply engineering techniques and principles to meet company needs. Write and maintain Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs). Qualifications
Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Process, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering with 0-3 years of industrial experience in areas of dry/powder ingredient application and hydromechanics. Ability to problem solve. Ability to work productively in a fast-paced, high pressure environment. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Strong communication and coordination skills with the ability to understand process and equipment needs and potential issues. Able to climb and lift up to 55 lbs. if needed. Electronic Control (PLC) design experience is preferred. Travel up to 60% to customer facilities in refrigerated food processing plants across the US and Canada. A post-offer background check and drug screen is required. Additional pre-employment requirements may be necessary based on position.
