We have an immediate opportunity for a Machine Technician - Extrusion & Thermoforming (Night shift). In this function you will troubleshoot and operate machinery used in manufacturing high-quality food packaging products.Starting Pay: Pay based on experience plus $0.75 night shift differential (if applicable)Shift Times: 7:00 pm-7:15 am. This is a 2-2-3 Panama schedule with every other weekend off! RESPONSIBILITIESSafetyEnsure equipment used in extrusion and thermoforming process is operated properly and all safety mechanisms and guards are in placeUnderstands how to handle machines properly during an emergency, which includes power outages, machine failure, workplace injuries, etc. Follows plant safety procedures and guidelines; wears and utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) as requiredUnderstands and performs Lock-out/Tag-out proceduresInforms supervisor of safety issues; reports any workplace injury or incident immediatelyQualityReads job specifications to determine machine adjustments, and material requirementsAdjusts settings and controls to ensure sheet is within defined processing standardsEnsure sheet quality by performing required quality assurance tests and inspectionsOperates at or below Company scrap targetsUnderstands and completes daily MCL tasksWorks to reduce rejected rolls per-month measurementMakes high-quality food packaging through the thermoforming processEnsures that all products manufactured on assigned machine are within Company quality limits; immediately recognizes quality issues and takes actionMonitors in-line inspection; completes any re-inspection that is ordered due to quality issues from assigned lineFollows plant quality practices including Good Manufacturing Practices, or GMP'sProductivityWorks to achieve 100% on-time completion of scheduled productionOperates two types of extruder lines including proper start-up/shutdownOperates two types of forming machinesAdjust machine components to regulate speeds, pressures, and temperatures, and amounts, dimensions, and flow of materialsMonitors machine operations and observe lights and gauges to detect malfunctions; presses control buttons to activate machinery and equipmentOperates relevant material handling systemsUnderstand basic functions of the extruder auxiliary systemsHandles rolls and moves finished products to the curing areaAbility to operate a lift truckAssists with rail-car system and conveying processGeneral & AdministrativeCompletes and fills out daily logs/reports as requiredCompletes all assigned cleaning/preventive maintenance tasksDelivers scrap to reprocessing area in the appropriate mannerExecutes basic Troubleshooting and adjusts basic processing problems.Immediately notifies supervisor of any/all processing or maintenance problems on assigned lineAssists other employees to set up machines and transport finished work piecesReports to the workplace on time (good attendance) and follows D&W attendance policy and guidelinesNo direct supervision responsibilitiesQUALIFICATIONS2+ years of machining experience Willingness to work and follow verbal/written instructions Thermoforming or Extrusion experience a mustMechanical aptitudeMay be required to use floor loading trucksModerate computer skills Ability to work safely, willingness to train in cross-functional areas, and working overtime as needed.More than a job.
