Position Overview
The Baker plays an essential role on our Culinary team, supporting all aspects of pastry production and presentation. This position is ideal for someone with a solid baking foundation who is eager to expand their skills by preparing breads, breakfast pastries, plated desserts, and sweet amenities that elevate the luxury guest experience. The Baker works closely with the Pastry Chef and pastry team to produce high-quality baked goods, assist with dessert finishing and plating, and support our restaurants, in-room dining, banquets, and special events. Flexibility, collaboration, and a passion for pastry craftsmanship are key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Baking & Pastry Production
- Prepare, bake, and present a wide variety of fresh breads, rolls, pastries, desserts, and baked goods to luxury standards.
- Assist with dessert finishing and plating for à la carte service, banquets, and special amenities.
- Follow established recipes, portioning, and production schedules to ensure consistency and quality.
- Collaborate with the Pastry Chef and team to create seasonal offerings and creative presentations that delight our guests.
- Maintain accurate labeling, storage, and rotation of ingredients and finished products.
- Ensure all food safety and sanitation standards are followed, including ServSafe protocols and resort-specific guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary pastry and baking area, including equipment and tools.
- Assist with receiving, stocking, and organizing pastry ingredients and supplies.
- Report any maintenance or safety concerns promptly to the Chef or Manager.
- Work closely with the entire Culinary team to support all resort food & beverage outlets, including the main restaurant, in-room dining, poolside service, and banquet operations.
- Support high-volume production needs while maintaining luxury standards for presentation and taste.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to meet daily production and service goals.
- Display a positive, professional attitude and a commitment to delivering memorable guest experiences.
The hourly pay range for this position is $22-25/hour depending on experience. This is the pay range for this position at Alila Ventana Big Sur reasonably expects to pay. Decisions regarding individual pay rates will be based on a number of factors including experience and education.
