Overview: We are seeking an experienced Composites Product Engineer in Williamston, SC or Clinton Township, MI. In this role, the Composites Product Engineer will be a technical product lead for our automotive composite material projects, ensuring all customer specific and internal company guidelines are being followed in the development phase. We're looking for a Hands-on, passionate individual who takes personal responsibility for their performance and business results. Demonstrates strong sense of urgency about solving problems and identifying opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

    n
  • Technical Product Lead for automotive projects using thermoset composite materials, carbon fiber, glass fiber, and epoxy.
  • n
  • Main point of contact for the OEM and suppliers during the development phase of composite parts.
  • n
  • Manage the customer oriented development team in regard to the requirements needed for automotive / motorsports and fiber composite components.
  • n
  • Propose new product / part designs based on manufacturing and assembly feasibility using composites, carbon fiber, and glass fiber materials.
  • n
  • Troubleshoot part design to identify root causes and countermeasures for meeting requirements.
  • n
  • Ensure the development budget is being adhered to.
  • n
  • Conduct regular design reviews to ensure design target is being met.
  • n
  • Implementation of the D-FMEA.
  • n
  • Ensure all customer specific and internal company guidelines and specifications are being followed in the development phase.

Requirements & Qualification:

n
    n
  • Degree in plastics engineering, electronical engineering, mechatronics, or comparable qualification.
  • n
  • Professional experience in the automotive / motorsports and fiber composite technology fields.
  • n
  • Understanding of current requirements and processes of the automotive / motorsport industry, including future trends.
  • n
  • Detailed understanding of the fiber composite part production process.
  • n
  • Knowledge of lightweight construction technology and it's design guidelines. Thermoset composite material experience desired.
  • n
  • Knowledge of simulation and virtual validation of fiber composite parts.
  • n
  • Experience in seat development.
  • n
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) experience.
  • n
  • CAD experience with Catia V5.
  • n
  • Experience of common automotive development and quality processes.
  • n
  • Quick learner, work independently, committed, teamwork and communication skills and hands on mentality desired.
  • n
  • Travel - 25% to suppliers & customers.
