Washington, DC Contract On-Site Flexibility/Remote:
PlanIT Group is seeking a Solutions Architect to support our Federal customer in the Washington, DC area. The ideal candidate will have strong proficiency in technical illustration using tools such as draw.io, Microsoft Visio, PowerPoint. Expert knowledge of cloud services from one or more of the primary Cloud Service Providers (CSPs), (Amazon, Microsoft, or Google), and the ability to integrate cloud services with on-premise technologies from Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, HP, Linux, SAP, etc. Experience leading the design, development, and deployment of performant cloud business software at scale; or current hands-on experience implementing cloud technology infrastructure, network, compute, storage, and virtualization.

Ability to research, analyze, and evaluate existing and proposed business systems and procedures, develop requirements, and identify system solutions in detailed measurable terms that achieve optimum performance and cost effectiveness. Strong proficiency in technical illustration using tools such as draw.io, Microsoft Visio, PowerPoint. Expert knowledge of cloud services from one or more of the primary Cloud Service Providers (CSPs)(Amazon, Microsoft, or Google), and the ability to integrate cloud services with on-premise technologies from Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, HP, Linux, SAP, etc. Experience leading the design, development, and deployment of performant cloud business software at scale; or current hands-on experience implementing cloud technology infrastructure, network, compute, storage, and virtualization. Communication, orally and in writing, sufficient to develop and present management briefings; provide written and/or verbal guidance on technical issues; and prepare/present recommendations and reports.
Chosen resources should exhibit through actual work experience not merely training:
Have practical experience using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Anthropic, agentic AI approaches. Exhibit high level of technical competence in using operating environments, tools, and technologies commonly used in best-practice solution architectures. Demonstrate automating complex tasks using scripting or coding skills, or tools (e.g., shell, Python, Ruby, PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation, Chef, or Puppet). Have prior experience such as designing, developing, implementing, or maintaining compute technology. Understand the business processes that support systems and operations related to writing architecture assessments assigned to them.
Task – Architecture Assessments
Description The resource may be tasked with the creation and submittal of reports, analysis, advice, studies, alternatives, evaluations, models, and/or similar documents.
Must extract information through internal stakeholder engagement, to deliver current and future state journey maps and other information included in architecture assessment template.
Timelines for completion are outlined on a per assessment basis, and priorities may shift at any time.
Deliverables Assessment documentation following customer template (Microsoft Word illustrated with Visio, draw.io or similar) and CIO briefings (PowerPoint) as assigned. This includes journey maps, solution architecture, implementation plan, key performance indicators (KPIs) of success of proposed design solution, cost analysis of proposed tech stack.
Acceptance Criteria Architecture approved by the Architecture Review Board (ARB).
Additional Provisions: • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance • Pass both a client mandated clearance process to include drug screening, criminal history check and credit check. • All candidates must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident. • Candidate must have lived in the United States for the past 5 years. • Cannot have more than 6 months travel outside the United States within the last five years. Military Service excluded. (Exception does not include military family members.)
