Responsibilities
As a
Project Engineer,
you will be responsible for the various tasks outlined below. If you’re reliable, have a good work ethic, and can cooperate with co-workers and clients respectfully, this is the position for you.
ravel to various job sites in a company-provided vehicle
Support Construction Materials Testing Manager in achieving financial goals
Oversee materials testing projects to ensure the proper tests are being performed at the required frequency and to ensure that projects specifications are being met
Complete proof roll observations and undercuts
Staff fieldwork
Provide on-site project management to complete field testing
Review, update and approve invoices weekly for ongoing projects
Develop and manage projects with clients
Create and update project proposals and reports
Document accurate and detailed daily field activity and/or diagrams and report the findings to clients and supervisors
Maintain daily communication with technicians, contractors, and other project managers
Communicate verbally and electronically with various field personnel and colleagues
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or similar is preferred.
1+ years of work experience in construction materials or geotechnical engineering is required.
Engineering Intern (EI/EIT) License with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred.
Proven track record of managing mid-to-large scale engineering projects from inception to completion.
Knowledge and familiarity with industry standards and regulations in geotechnical and construction materials testing methods, ASTM standards, AASHTO, DOT, ASCE, OSHA, laboratory testing, soil classifications, and construction oversight.
Experience developing project scopes, budgets, schedules, and risk assessments for infrastructure or construction projects.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
Ability to lead project teams, mentor junior engineers, and coordinate multidisciplinary efforts.
Proven experience in client communication, engagement, and presentation to others.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting, proposal writing, and presentations.
Ability to calculate results from geotechnical/construction materials testing data.
Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
Ability to accurately complete field-testing paperwork and detailed figures.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to write technical reports, proposals, business correspondences and/or procedure manuals as needed.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, detailed reports, short correspondence and memos.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to use technology/computer.
Strong leadership skills and an eye for detail.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments
Field work on outside construction sites involving long-term standing and potentially repetitive motions
Typically 50% field work and 50% office work
Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus), smell, hear and touch (use your hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit)
Some weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required
May be required to drive hundreds of miles per day
Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs.
Ability to regularly lift and/or move/shake up to 40lbs (soil and/or concrete tests and related apparatus); frequently lift and/or move up to 60lbs (soil and sand samples, and nuclear density equipment); and occasionally move more than 100lbs. (such as a loaded wheelbarrow of concrete samples)
