This is mechanical work at the apprenticeship level. A mechanic in this classification is expected to do general repairs on passenger cars and light and heavy-duty trucks. Job DutiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.On Call towing light and heavy-duty city-owned vehicles/equipmentPerforms minor tune-ups, repairs, and/or replaces brake linings, wheel bearings, changes lights and fuses, and all other repairsUsing electronic diagnostic equipment, traces out and repairs any vehicle system, including electrical/electronic, carburetor/fuel injection, hydraulic/pneumatic heat and air conditioning, and any other major repair that requires the experience of an accredited gasoline/diesel mechanic.Assists Vehicle Technician II on more extensive repairs, working as a helperMust be proficient in computer technology and terminology to repair both light and heavy-duty vehicles.Must be able to read and interpret computer and electrical schematics to repair light and heavy vehicles.Knowledge on how to replace engines and transmissions, as well as repair for light-duty VehiclesAbility to perform annual inspections on equipment and vehiclesWorking weekends during summer months - 1 -2 times a month During the weekend work, have off on Thursday and Friday leading up to the weekend Working holidays during summer Available to report to work in emergency weather situations Minimum QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
